Major wiring question

Im in the process of installing a 20b and have started the wiring aspect of this. The car has been changed so much that I dont have much factory left to it and was wondering if it's possible to eliminate the main wiring harness that goes to the from the drivers door around to the passenger side. I know some of it is the lights but what about the bulk of it. The only thing I need to work under the hood still is the abs. Anyone tackeled this mess?

I studied the wiring diagrams to see if it was possible but there are just too many important wires in it - all the power for the fuse blocks and relays and starting syst. are in there
trying to eliminate it would just cause more elec. gremlins

what EMS are you using?
I wired the Microtech for a 20B - it even comes with instructions for 20B install in an FD
and you can eliminate the main wiring harness and many other misc wiring in the car

You can take lots of it out depending on what your looking to keep. One main issue is you have to have a good understanding of wiring diagrams and lots of time. You may want to get the 20B running first with the new ECU then do the rewiring. That way any problems that may come up are able to be pinned on less things.

This wiring harness cannot be eliminated.

I stripped mine, getting rid of everything that wasnt being used. I still needed the fuse boxes for some functions, so i just relocated them to the cabin. It makes for a very clean engine bay without any boxes there.

get ready to spend some time on it, it takes forever to go through it all.

it can be eliminated (rfreeman27 needed it for 13B stuff)...you just have to know what you are wiring and what you will need to make the circuit.

rfreeman27 is correct...get ready to do some homework, and spend some serious time on it.

I'd recommend a full custom front chassis harness...
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...4&page=6&pp=15 <--look towards the bottom of this page for a full wire job. not that it will help, but it will give you an idea of what needs to be done.

all of the harnesses in the car can eliminated if you want to do a custom wiring job, but I think he is asking if it can be eliminated all together, not rewired
if he is talking about rewiring, then yes,
but like I said it will cause more problems than it will help and I doubt you would really save any weight or simplify anything

I just got a manual so it looks like I will be spending my nights tracing wires. I really want to clean the front of the engine bay up as I have little room up front from everything being shoved forward on the car. I have thought about rewiring the entire car but dont know if Im ready to tackle such a big wiring job.
thanks for the help

I'm thinking of doing the same thing for the same reason. As a warm up I stripped down the alternator harness. I was able to eliminate a lot of wires on it that were related to the stock ignition system. I am going to relocate the battery to the rear bin. For that reason I am also interested in moving the main fuse box.
