knock sensor question
Well, I am so close to getting this going, and last night I was fishing some wiring through the engine compartment by the alternator, and I unplugged the knock sensor connector. Well, it isn't easy getting that connector back together without tearing stuff apart again! So, I wondered, just like my supra, would there be anything wrong with re-wiring the KS from the KS itself all the way to the ECU? I would just bypass the connector entirely.

actually, I don't think I need to remove the UIM. It is accessible by removing the IC pipes and the alternator...first I will try again with really LONG needle nose pliers.

For me, it was just easier to take the UIM off. I was unable to get enough force to snap the connector with otherwise. Then again, I didn't have all the IC piping all hooked up.
For your first few times starting the car with the replacement engine, I wouldn't worry about hooking up the cool side of the IC piping and the elbow. I would leave that stuff off so you have access to the throttle body adjustments.

well, just to make this easier, I am going to rewire the knock sensor from the sensor right to the ECU plug. that will eliminate the liability of the connector all-together. It worked great on my supra.

Bad idea Ace
The wire is shielded between the sensor & connector.
Years ago I moved the KS to the rear housing to see if the knock readings would be the same. I had to splice the wire to reach.
Wow, the reading were quite a bit lower. So I moved the KS back to the stock location. Damn, they were lower there to now.
IN fact the sensor never registered above 10 units after that.
I find it hard to beleive it's easier to hard wire the sensor to the ECU over just plugging the thing in. To each his own I guess, but your gonna screw up your sensor.
BTW, you got a thing for leather?
