Over flow tank leak?

I came home today and I noticed that there was a puddle of coolant leak coming from the passenger side (infront of the tire) I checked the rad hose and it does not appear to be leaking at all. Basically leaking in the corner of the bumper of the passenger side. I am thinking its the overflow tank. FYI my car is 93 usdm rx7 tt Thanks

Is it too full? Check your dipstick.

the neck of my filler tank cracked and I had the similar symptoms when adding coolant. Instead of replacing it $$, I just put some special tape over it. Its a pita to reach any way you look at it.

Thanks for the post guys. I will check the filler neck for cracks and leaks. I did add some fluid in the Filler neck 5 days ago. I dont know why i added coolant to the overflow but I did since I had the hood open. I added maybe 1 small drinking cup. I checked my coolant and it was full in both the ast and the water pump housing. I just checked the overflow tank and it is also full. I just took the car to the park just 10 minutes ago and it did not leak at all at the park but when I got home it leaked again. It seems to be dripping lots but everything is full, Odd!

Usually the first sign of an over-pressurizing coolant system due to failing O rings, sadly. The coolant is forced into the overflow by the combustion pressures. You should take a coolant sample to a testing lab that checks for hydrocarbon residues.
Another thing that is not as dramatic but can be a pain, is that you have a slight air leak in your coolant system somewhere, usually in one of the caps either on the AST or the filler neck. This negates the thermosiphon effect and essentially means the coolant in the overflow is not getting sucked back into the cooling system. So you add a bit of coolant. More overflows. So you add more. And so on and so on. My advice is to replace the caps and see if your problem goes away. If it does not, do the hydrocarbon test.

Wow sounds a bit serious. I just did a motor swap. I got the engine imported from a right hand drive RX7 from Japan with low km. Everything checked out good & good compression. Hope this is not the issue with the o-rings.

My coolant is not forced into the overflow becuase if it was then there would be no or low coolant in my waterpump housing. My ast and the water pump housing is always full and thats where you would fill your coolant from. Correct me if I am wrong. Getting me a little scared because just did a JDM motor swap and it wasnt cheap.

First bring the coolant level to the proper level in the recovery tank. The high and low readings on the dipstick are cold readings. If filled properly it should be some where between those marks when cold and move higher than that when hot and return to that level when cold. If it's full it's going to overflow. (there's a vent hole on top of the tank) the neck doesn't have to seal very well as it's just an aid (like a funnel) to add coolant to the tank if it gets below the low level when cold.

Took another look today and I do see that it is leaking between the filler neck and the overflow tank. I think it is becuase I overfilled the tank so then as a result it spills out when the engine is shut off. I will let it spill out until it reaches it normal level. Hope it will help. Engine does not over heat and runs smoothly.
