Who says you can't pass smog with a streetported motor, intake, SMIC, downpipe, hi-flow cat, and PFC?

And Adam, I AM planning on going to that auto-x...it will be great to see you again.
Good, hope to see you there

I'm too lazy to read this whole thread. Which cat did you go with, and how is the noise level?

I went with the Rotary Performance hi-flow cat....very nice construction quality. I hesitate to comment too much on noise, since the new motor is ported, but the noise at idle is increased a bit -- you can hear more of the exhaust pulses. This is a plus for me. So far, below idle, the noise hasn't changed a whole lot. It may be a bit louder but it certainly isn't objectionable or obnoxious in any way. The PFC tuning has been changed -- running different AFRs and timing will change the noise level and tone of the exhaust note -- so there may be something there too.

I will be posting some pics of the Stoptech/99 RS/RZ brakes installed....and some other goodies too, very soon. Patience!

...and a $200 "tip"? Here I am sweating over my DP and boost controller!

Glad she's back on the road! Congrats. I can't wait to see the pics either. While you're at it, maybe it's time for a new avatar pic. I keep seeing this standard one, and mistake it for you.

BTW, Congrats Tyler! In a few short weeks, it will be 365 days for me.
Yep -- I'll be at the 365 day mark in November... atleast that is when my auto tranny removal began. I actually lost my motor after that swap in Feb.... I miss my car...

I can't believe I haven't posted an update in over 2 months....or any reviews or photos of the new parts. Well, I've been "busy" and I'll be getting to this stuff shortly.

As an update, my car is being tuned on 12/17 by Steve Kan. I've decided to pick up an HKS Twin Power and to run a midpipe for the tuning. Depending on how loud/smelly the midpipe is, I may forego my goal of running the hi-flow cat all of the time. We'll see.

I'm still running an ultrasafe map at 10-11 psi only, but this motor pulls hard above 5k rpm. Highest knock recorded under WOT so far has been 20.

My water temps have been running much cooler with the new motor....my fans no longer even have to come on in most city driving, unlike before.

Anyway, I will be posting separate reviews of the new modifications, as well as tuning results in the next month or so. I plan on tuning for up to 15-16 psi, whatever Steve feels is safe on 91 octane. I will be running water injection and will be running 100 octane for tracking the car. I have no plans for drag racing the car, as it ain't my thing, but maybe I'll do a run or two just to see what my trap speeds are.

Yike! Rynberg with a midpipe. Might want to try a resonated midpipe. I can't stand how loud my car is and I have one of the metal substrate cats in my midpipe. Extra resonator/muffler going in really soon.

Motor sounds sweet. Can't wait to see the results of Steve's majic on your car.

Yeah, I know. I got the resonated one from rx7store with the Magnaflow muffler in it. I'm running a RB exhaust, so maybe it won't be so bad...on the primary turbo anyway, hehe.

I have a couple of hours worth from last year....but I'm anxious to actually get some quality footage going. Hopefully I can be back at the track by February. I miss it badly.

It's pretty quiet... unless you're at WOT. I have a HKS dp, Pettit resonated mp, and RB single cb.

Tyler, my FD runs cold as ice as well. I can't remember the last time my temps have gotten above 89 celcius around town, or the last time my fans came on.

Also, good call on the m/p. I have the magnaflow res as well and really like it.

My knock reading never gets above 15 on my commander @ 15psi. I probably could extract more power but I've got enough for my taste...

Yep, Stage 3s sequentially. I can't afford to regularly run anything over pump gas for typical street use...but she always gets 100 at the track. I figure that between a nice safe tune and the water injection, I should be fine running 15-16 psi on 91 octane.

Rich, my car doesn't run that cold but then again I've still got A/C... Good to hear about the Magnaflow midpipe, we'll see. If I can't stand it, even for just fine driving, I'll just put the hi-flow cat back on and tweak the fuel maps if necessary.

Yes. Most of my WOT readings are in the teens, I seem to remember hitting just over 20 on a colder night. I'm currently running a map for a T-78 if that's any indication.

uhm.. wtf??!
i get more than that at idle, think i get about 25.
at woot at 0,45bar it pikes at around 60-85,
at 0,95bar i sometimes get upp to 90..
how do you get so low knock??

im running a really safe map with lowered boost (bad clutch, cant hold power)

knock readings tend to be different from car to car, I wouldnt worry too much about the disparity.
