Intercooler Comparisons

These are a few intercooler temp drop comparisons that I have been taking.
I am currently developing a front mount kit which should be less than half the prie of the current front mount IC's

Very nice to see some real data numbers. I love the stock Skyline data! I can only hope the Apexi C2 Skyline core used in the RX7 Fashion/Turbo Streetfighter IC's is similar. Could you please tell me what equipment you used to conduct these tests? I'd like to do similar testing myself.

The kit is a 8 channel data logger with temp ranges on the probes used from -20 to +1150 at 0.025deg resolution.
The kit plugs straight into your laptop and gives an instant graph and table with up to 500 recordings. Sampling can be varied from every 0.1 of a second up to several minutes between recording data
So far I have carried out several tests on the following vehicles:
FD3S 1996 stock IC (Power FC running 0.8Bar)
FD3S 1996 Uprated IC stock location(Power FC running 0.8Bar)
FD3S 1992/3 front mount apexi
FD3S 1992/3 Front Mount Blitz
Toyota Mr2 1992 Stock IC
Nissan Skyline 1995 Stock IC Running 1Bar
As You can see the skyline as standard is over engineered, the front mount apexi and blitz were both excellent units, however price was high. aswell as the int in/out temps, I was also monitering air on/off int ambient and air filter inlet temps.
The skyline had an apexi induction kit, which gave v-high temp readings of air being drawn in after standstill up to approx 70mph, before there was sufficient cool air forced through the engine bay.
Hope these are of some info.
Chris

very usefull data indeed,

I'm curious why on the stock RX7 IC as well as the MR2 IC the intake temps were so erratic going up and down? Is this from shifting through the gears etc?

Thanks for the info on the unit. Sounds like a very nice setup. Do you know where I could get something similar here in the states? Brand name and/or model number? Thanks.

Attachments on this site allways do that

Just rename the extesnion (.php) to ".xls" and then you will be able to open it.

The cores aren't large enough to shed enough heat to flatten out the spikes, thus the spikes go right on through to the outlet, plus the small cores are heat soaked after the first few minutes.

Very nice! I'd like to see some data for ambient air volume & temperature through the core, or at least vehicle speed conditions. Also, where are the numbers for the larger stock mount RX-7 intercooler? How much did that logging setup cost?

*BUMP*
Is anyone else waiting for the upgraded SMIC chart? This would help settle the SMIC vs FMIC debate.

agreed. I'd also like to see pressure drop info on the Blitz. Anyone know where I can find that? (got lost searching).

great job Chris.
