BOV Decision

I'm getting down to my order forms for parts and I just want to double check for any suggestions that might change my mind. I was planning on putting an APEX'i Twin Chamber BOV. Are there mostly good results with this or is Blitz the main BOV of satisfaction. Let me know what you guys think. Include sound and installation opinions too. Thanks

Unplug the stock BOV's from the air box. I think you will be very pleased with the sound. The only reason you would need to upgrade your BOV is if you went with a big single.

They all do the same job w/ the same performance. The only difference is the sound they make.
It's all about preference. I like the sound the HKS SSQ makes. High pitch sneeze sound.

A vented stock valve sounds almost exactly like the apexi valve. It is real simple to vent the stock valve (if you don't know how, do a search or PM me).

You're welcome.

P.S. I am partial to the HKS Super Sequential.

A Blow off's a blow off a blow off...but for stock applications, I am partial to the stock one vented, or the apexi...both of which sound the same.

With an open intake, the stockers are pretty loud anyway.
I was just wondering if you upgraded to a single, there is no reason to buy the car (ie RX-7) specific kit (costing $100.00 more) is there??? Since your just going to have it welded into the ic hardpipe anyway. Just wanted to know.
And I've heard that both the Blitz and more so the Apex'i BOV's are the ones to stay away from!!!
Stick with HKS, Tial, Greddy, Turbo XS, etc...

oh, gosh.... Ok. Anybody wanna give me a quick tutorial on how to vent the stock BOVs?

I wasn't planning on upgrading to a big single. Somewhere down the line and over $3k, I was gonna do a ball bearing upgrade, but I'd like to keep my 7 a little more streetier and less race-race. Maybe I'll try venting the stocks and then spend the money on a universal kit later when I have hardpipes installed.
Well....Venting lesson, anyone?

hehe, sure. ive posted and done this proceedure like 12 times, so i know exactly how to do it now, hehe.

look into the hood from the front of the car (with airbox to your left). Unplug the 2 hoses running from the bov and crv to the intake box. then, take the longer hose from the crv, and bend it, and re-plug the airbox to make sure no impurities get sucked in. It takes a little tugging for the CRV hose, well for me it did. dont worry, their neoprene hoses, and you can dispose of the shorter one if ya want.

Now, all you have to do is get some breathers (not necessary though) for the crv and blow off valves, and your set. venting the stock bov couldnt be more simple.

edit: Yea, that link has the pic to further illustrate wha i mean.

The stock BOV is off of my air box, it has a K&N filter on the end. It is plenty loud, people walking down the road turn around when they hear it from like 50 yards away. Anything louder would be annoying.

...because it is more commonly known as the "GReddy Type-****".

it is right down there with the A'PEXi BOV at the bottom of the blow-off valve food chain.

HKS Racing Type II, HKS SSQV, TiAL, GReddy Type-R, and Blitz DD are the best blow-off valves out there.

What type of BOV makes the noise that dosen't sound like swooshing noise? It sounds like the BOV is opening and closing really fast.

Why get the apexi one (unless you are running a single turbo)? The stock valve sounds almost exactly the same when vented. The money saved on that can be put to something useful, like a downpipe.

the greddy type s is the one that sounds like it's opening and closing fast. That's what the green eclipse in the fast and the furious has if you want to know what it sounds like.

I'm not really sure about my BOV. I will take a picture tomorrow. It was installed by the previous owner, EVERYONE loves it though.

the green Eclipse in the movie was actually a non-turbo GS, but the BOV sound that they digitally added to the Eclipse and three black Civics(hijacking the semis) sounds similar to the GReddy Type-S.

What about putting a breather on the BOV? Is that necessary or does it matter?
