Unhappy Injectors...

I tried everything to find a place that is capable of performing a flow test on my injectors, but apparently there is not one shop in the state of Missouri that has a machine that can flow test injectors for an RX7. I dropped them off at 3 different places and they all said that they simply do not fit. I had a friend of mine who owns a shop call around and the closest person he can find to do them is in Indy at Linden Tech or something like that. They want $25 per injector to test them plus shipping.

The secondaries have about 12xxx on them and the primaries have about 107xxx. Should I just buy new injectors? They are stock cc.

I have a Pettit ECU, will I have to get a new chip to accomodate bigger injectors if I decide to buy bigger ones?

Don't get new injectors unless they are melted or otherwise physically damaged.. just send them to RC Engineering. For $25 per injector they will clean your injectors, flow test them, and send you new grommets with them. I can't answer your answer about the ECU with certainty, but my guess would be yes unless you have big cajones and want to run a S-AFC with them.

Linder Tech is right down the road from my shop. They flow check, clean, backflush and reflow check the injectors for the $25 fee. We send all of our second gen injectors (top feed) there. I am not sure if they have the fittings to do Third gen injectors (Galley Feed). I can check with them tomorrow.

There have been many threads on this (you can do a search for all the debates and info).

The concensus is that anything over normal primaries and 1100 secondaries will require an ECU other than the normal reprogrammed M2, Pettit, GForce, etc ECU's.

ok, so i have a gforce ecu. stock secondaries are 850cc, right? at WOT, it goes into open loop mode. the computer defaults to lets say 80% duty cycle (arbitrary number) now if i enlarge the secondaries to ~1100cc and keep the same ECU, it will still be running at 80% duty on a much larger injector. therefore making a much more rich condition. is there a chance of running too rich with this set up? is that why 1100cc is the "limit" on a stock-type ecu? also, with the 1100cc secondaries, what would be the most boost you could run safely, assuming stock turbos and internals and upgraded IC?

let me know if i forgot anything, or my reasoning was wrong above. thanks

ISUposs,

Here is a reponse from Max about running too much fuel through the car:

Too much fuel washes the oil away, and you get increased wear. Carbon deposits raise compression and create hot spots that can lead to detonation.

I don't think there really has been a lot of tests done. If there has been, it would be by a shop like PFS, Pettit or one of the other major rotary tuners. I'm sure they could give more info about injector upgrades on reprogrammed ECU's.

this is very useful info.....no kidding around....i know that i should probably upgrade my injectors soon, and questioned the duty% as well. i know that 14psi is pretty much the upper limit with the stock injectors, and there is always a chance that they will hiccup, and there goes a 9K motor build-up. i am sure that the upgraded ecu's that are listed above will tolerate larger injectors, but i would think that they must be re-tuned for the increase of flow....any other input.......and....who make pip injectors, or is there always a custom rail that goes with modding the fd rail?
