My FD Updated Modification List

My FD has been through a lot since I first bought her exactly one year ago....

This is what I got... for any of you who might be interested.... I started off w/ buying out an entirely Stock Base model FD with some heavy and ugly-*** chrome 3 star 18'' rims and poorly welded-on-the stock piping MagnaFlow Muffler w/ a UGLY SUPRA WING ON THE BACK. It had a broken windshield as well. I found it on Craigslist for $8,500 it had 80,000 miles on it at the time. My Raman was set in at 98,600 miles....

Here' goes....

19 x 8.5 (front) 19 x 9.5 (rear) Mercury Silver Roja R2-5 Rimz.... BFgoodrich G-Force T/A KDW Street-Tires 235/35/19 (front) 275/30/19 (rear)... '99 spec Twin-Turbos... Remanufactured Motor from Malloy... Brand New OEM Oil Metering Lines... Brand New OEM Water Hoses.. Brand New MAZDA RX-7 Engine Mounts... Large Street Port & Upgraded Water Seal by Rotary Extreme... M2 3" Downpipe... 3" Rx-7store Midpipe... Apexi N1 Dual Exhaust... Apexi Power FC w/ Commander... ACT Extreme Pressure Plate & Clutch... Greddy Full Auto Timer... AutoMeter Boost and A/F Ratio Gauges... Dual A-Piller Gauge Pod... Brand New 550cc Primary Injectors... Brand New 1300cc Secondary Injectors... Brand New Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump... Hose Techniques Red Silicone Vacuum Hoses... All Brand New Vacuum Solinoids... Efini Y-pipe... Aluminum AST... Rotary Extreme Engine Torque Damper w/ Brackets... EBC Ceramic Red-Stuff Brake Pads... R1 Front Strut-Tower Bar... R1 Front Lip Diffuser... Upgraded Black Front Turn Signals... Hyper White JDM Headlight Bulbs... Ghetto Fabricated Black Headlight Housing Covers... Rotary Extreme Custom Aluminum Cold Air Intake System w/ Hard-Pipes...Upgraded Koyo Radiator... NGK Spark Plugs and Plug Wires... Custom Red Gorilla Lug-Nuts... Rear Tower Bar... Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oil w/ Fram Tough Guard Oil Filter... Brand New OEM Mazda Fuel Filter... Brand New Fuel Pulsation Dampner... Brand New Engine Wiring Harness... Professional Installation of Performance Upgrades... ( Now I'm Just Awaiting DynoTuning After Installing A Brand New Custom Rotary Extreme V-Mount Intercooler System w/ Pulley Kit, Upgraded Dual Oil Coolers, and an HKS Twin Power Ignition System... I Intend to schedule a dyno session with Motorsport Dynamics in Sacramento, Ca... Expected Horsepower should be somewhere Between 350-400HP @ 18 PSI ... Expected Chassis Weight 2800lb or Less Pending Weigh in @ Mare Island Scales... ) I'm trying to go for functionality and Reliabilty... I want this to be my Ultimate Street Prowler...

I need to Buy some Coilovers from Auto RnD in Milpitas... Right now I'm eyeing their Zeal Function X's and Endless Big Brake Kit that they have... Although the Brembo Gran Turismo Kit is looking very Appealing... I'm also in need of some new suspension bushings and sway bars... upgraded control arms, toe links, camber kit, and launch kit... and upgraded LSD would be great too but they are so hard to find... although the stock 7 LSD is good enough I'd love to be able to have peace of mind....

After I get all the performace components out of the way I'm going to work on the BodyWork and Exterior Mods...

'99spec front end w/ turn signals and fog lamps, apexi side skirts, Feed wing w/ Carbon Fiber Insert... N1 Hood... Limo Tint... and Candy Red Paint...

Who know's maybe the 7 will never be complete... I'm sure my cars taste is going to change over-time...

Here are a few pictures of my 7... as of lately... the fenders need rolling because of the old 3 star rims that were on it... they totally F'd up my fenders...

Tell me what you guys think... I know she needs a lot of work but some feedback would be nice to get me in the right direction...

Thanks in Advance...

Do you have a money tree or something? I would love to do many of the upgrades you have but the funds just aren't there.

Why did you "fabricate" black headlight covers?!

I also have a plan somewhat like yours. It's just going to take more than a year to get there. It's already been a year and I'm not even close. How do you like the 99 turbos? I guess your still sequential since you purchased new solenoids.

the originals were so old that they fell apart with the slightest amount off pressure.... needless to say, I bought a new one from malloy and painted it black because i couldn't find the matching red for it... and epoxy'd the hell out of the other one and said F it paint it black too... no one know's the better... and it gives my car a sleeper look... haha

The 99spec turbos are great! they spool up really fast and I haven't really had any issues with boost keep thus far... we'll see on the dyno though... if there is a chance for boost creep i'm installing a metal cat w/ a metal core....

Nice, but after all of that why save the intercooler till last??? Seems like that should be at the top of your list. It boggles my mind that you could drive a FD with all the work done and still drive it with a stock intercooler.

None the less, After the R/E V-mount it will be awesome

Unfortunately, with the 99 twins (which are essentially stock turbos) you won't be able to bat a 1000cc bike, which are fast as *****. Even with my BNRs with the boost cranked to 19 psi I dont know if I can pull on one of those. I remember racing one back in TX when I was making ~330 rwhp on stock twins and that SOB passed me on the right when I was winding out 4th gear like nothing lol.

Also, the metal cat doesnt do much against creep. You either need to port your wastegate, or get a high flow cat in there. You can also get some small restrictor plates, do a search for 'boost creep,' there was a recent thread here in the 3rd gen section, Jiyo or somebody is fabricating exhaust restrictor plates.

Oh, and I vote for red headlight covers too

good luck with the car man,
Rich

That's correct! I have restrictor plates if interested. Not to make this an ad or anything, I sell them in a set of 3. Each with a different port size. A 2.5" port, a 2.25" port, and a 2.0" port. So far I'm 2 out 3! Meaning 2 out of 3 guys have been ecstatic. Well, 3 of 4 counting myself.

The 3rd is dgeesaman (sorry if I mispelled). He should receive his 3 plates today or tomorrow. We'll see how they work for him! I'll post a link, but will have to do on edit.

rx slim's post regarding fixing his boost creep!

Look into Stoptech before you dive into a big brake kit. I have a set on my WRX and they are great. I can out brake STis with Brembos (very similar to the GT kit they sell) without a problem.

Nice work over the last year. Have any before pics?
