hose replacement

more questions!
I keep reading that the FD needs to have it's hoses replaced, and I was wondering what hoses should be relpaced, when, and with what. My FD has 40k miles, and has very regular maintaince. It is in storage now, and soon I will be starting upgrades sometime this later winter/early spring. Also, where is the best place to get hoses, the rx7store? and I am assuming that there are a varity of hoses that you can use to replace the stock ones, what are the best? Price is of course an figure here, but I am more intereted in gettnig hoses in the car that will ensure longevity and continued preformance.

thanks again

Unless you have boost problems or have the motor apart anyway, I think it makes sense to leave the stock hoses in place. If/when you decide to change them, most people use silicone (~25' of 4mm-ish, ~10' of 6mm). I get my silicone hose from Baker Precision. Thick-walled Viton hose from McMaster-Carr or other suppliers is probably the best solution, but it is much more expensive.

Well I've taken from this community long enough... It's time to give back.

Please visit Rob's website
http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/hoses.htm
This will tell you everything you need to know, plus it has some outstanding other information.
I hope this helps.

Do you have to take the engine out? or is there a way to install the silicone vaccum hoses without taking the engine out?

Good Lord man... NO you don't have to pull the engine to do that!!!!!!
You have to take the Plenum off the car, (The curved metal thing that the air goes into ... the upper intake manifold). Just follow the directions on Rob's site and you will be fine.

You really SHOULD take your car to someone and have them do it for you. It is MUCH more difficult than it appears and requires testing of solenoids and check valves as well as replacing hose.
Although it would be a lot easier with the engine out!

I used mostly 3.5mm hose from hose techniques, and a little bit a 4mm and 6mm. If you have no idea what you're doing, I highly suggest you don't do it.

I reccommend bypassing all the solenoids and switching to twin, it simplifies everything and i think they run better that way, i did it to mine before i went single and have done it to a few customers cars without any complaint....
