Daily Driver or Just a trophey.
There are a lot of nice FD in this forum and there is always the question of reliability, who drive what, show cars, trailier queens......So I want to know who really drives their cars!
Yes my car does compete in shows and yes it was in FnF but I want to clarify that my car is not a show car. It has been and always will be a daily driven street car that can also win shows etc.....

usage of FD
I guess this will be a hot topic to debate about but when it comes down to it the question really that should be asked is where do you live? and what type of daily driving are you doing??? For instance myself i dont drive mine everyday cause i dont want anything to happen to it. I live in Jersey so there are a lot of maniacs who cant drive and high insurance premiums are a result of this. So it is a weekend only driven car. I dont want to put a lot of $$ into a car that can be destroyed in a split second by an idoit who cant drive. Plus i look forward to driving it all week long as long as the weather is nice.

Mine is not a daily driver right now. Mainly because I have a 30 mile drive to work and we, sometimes, have snow.
60+ miles a day can be pretty hefty on gas, so I have a '96 Sunfire that I drive at least 3-4 days during the week, and all the time during the winter/cold months.
Also, I don't take my FD out on rainy days. Mostly I don't trust the other crazy people on the road to not slide into me or do something else stupid. They can hit my Sunfire all they want.
However, the car is not a show car, and I do drive it all the time on the weekends during the warm months, and on the warmer weekends during the winter months.

I keep it pretty, but......
I live in the country..work in the city. It is WORTH IT to drive the FD daily (in summer). That's why I've got it. Not for Drag Racing in the city. I take corners with ease that would cause my other 'sporty' cars to flip over. I am a happy man.

I drive my RX-7 most of the time when it works, but I have another car that is more worthy of the title "daily driver". I also like to beat on the RX-7 at track events and take it to RX-7 club events, in addition to just driving it around when I feel like it and it is functional. It sure isn't a show car, and it spends a lot of time dirty. It is purely for driving enjoyment for me -- the fact that it looks pretty sometimes is just a nice side effect.

Given the choices - trophy. I drive on average 500-600 miles a week for work alone though, so its not practical. Its still better then the 1300 miles/week I averaged my first year for work, when my company expaned into Texas and I was the only guy covering the state.
I've driven the FD as much as 3000 miles/month,and as little as 0 miles a month (not counting starting it up and dusting out the cob webs regulary hehe). Wish I had a normal job like everyone else. But then again, what with Houston traffic averaging 15 mph into/out of downtown during rush hours, it would be inhumane treatment for the poor FD.:p

every day about 10 miles. Just took a run the beach today (about 35 miles over the mountains) and hit 140 mph just to dust off some old geez in a volvo s80 (or 90 or some ****)
