Hose Clamps!

Little by little I'm planning a restoration of my FD. One of the first things I'm going to do is replace the hose clamps in my engine bay due to rust/corrosion. I'm looking at Atkins Rotary's page and these things run $4.50+ EACH.

Mazda Hose Clamps

Anyone know where I can get good quality hose clamps cheaper and in bulk?

Also, what sizes do I need, and what size(s) are the large screw-type clamps on the plastic intercooler and intake tubes?

Personally I don't like the stock constant tension clamps. They lose their holding power over time and if not the exact right size with oem hose they can leak. Lowes has stainless steel hose clamps I all different sizes. You can also get them from Mcmaster.

My biggest complaint on stock hose clamps is they are a pain to remove with pliers

Don't use T clamps on fluid hoses. They don't work as well as worm gears. As for worm gear clamps, use clamps with extruded threads and rolled edges so they don't bite into the hose, esp on silicone hose

All that said, I would leave sleeping dogs lie unless you plan to replace the hoses as well.

I like Murray Clamps since they have the convenience and even clamping force of a quality worm gear clamp, but also a constant tension design.

Not particularly cheap though.

Worm gear hose clamps suck. Don't use them.

The constant tension stock style hose clamps are the best for applications in coolant systems with a lot of expansion and contraction. There design makes it very easy to install in tight locations as well.

I'm sure you can find them cheaper online somewhere.

Stock ones are about 1/4 to 1/3rd the cost with a Mazda Motorsports account

At work we use 2 Murray Clamps on 2inch hose that has 175 PSI of water pressure , no leaks .

I'm a big believer in using OEM components, though admittedly the spring-tension clamps can be a BITCH in some locations. The Murray clamps that have the smooth wall that grips the hose are ideal for most hose applications as they don't have the 'worm' part of the clamp exposed to the soft hose material.
Some people also like the pinch-style or Oeitker clamps...but they are a total bitch to get off; usually requiring cutting off.

Easy on, easy off. Always the right tension.
