Help: problem with exhaust manifold to block gasket

Hi!

I'm having problem with original new gasket for exhaust manifold. The gasket looks like this here:
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2155845

Note, that it has only one hole for coolant port.

The problem is, that engine looks like this (magenta circled): https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1077639

It has two coolant ports bellow each exhaust port.

Now the problem is, that it seems if I use this exhaust gaskets, that the coolant might leak from around covered hole, because there is no gasket reinforcement around the coolant port hole. Did anyone had this problem and how did you solve it? Can I use these gaskets without worries?

Thanks

Without seeing the exhaust manifold, I cannot say for sure, but it seems as though there were nipples that passed through into the block. The gaskets should be the only thing necessary to make a water tight seal.

The top circles in your pic will be covered by the new metal intake manifold gasket. The lower holes will be sealed by the exhaust gaskets that you have pictured.

Put them on the right way and there will be no problems. They all have the same 2 holes but if they go on per the FSM there will be no leaks

the bottom holes under the exhaust port are not coolant ports...
flow throughs for emissions..

A larger photo would really help.

Thank you ! I thought i was going crazy thinking they weren't coolant holes. I was searching everything I have and looking at my torn apart engine and could not see how he was thinking they were coolant . I knew that they were connected to the LIM and that was where I was like WTF? But didn't want to start a war over it.

Mind at ease now

Hi!

I'm really confused now...

Again to make it clear:
- these are the two exhaust manifold gaskets; each has only one hole (besides stud holes) circled red
http://www.parsek.si/documents/soru/tmp/gaskets.jpg
- this is my engine, it has two ports circled red under each exhaust port
http://www.parsek.si/documents/soru/tmp/holes.jpg

So the initial problem is, that there is one hole missing in each gasket for the port on the engine. So I'm worried that these gasket will not tight seal around the hole being covered, because they are not reinforced there (see the pics).

And know the second question arised, so they are not coolant but air ports? What are they good for, blowing the air into manifold wall?

Is there any port on manifold for these two ports to match on the engine?

Thanks!

Just install the gaskets with the crimped side facing out towards the exhaust manifold. Look at pg. C-90 (pg. 91 of the PDF).

What pdf are you taking about? I have parts catalog from iluvmyrx7.com, "engine pdf"... there's nothing about those gaskets on 90p, this is all I've found under exhaust manifold section:

It only shows here, that those manifold gaskets should have two holes...

Now, can please someone that had the same problem explain me why are those two ports in the block and how did one overcome this issue with different gasket?

I'm talking about the shop manual not the parts catalog. You are using a shop manual to put your engine back together right?

That probably explains why I couldn't remember if there were nipples or not. I think amp is right.
