Help me with the name of these parts/ possible solution
hey guys,
I have a 93 R1 and i have the lovely problem of my car not wanting to start sometimes. so heres what i've found out.
sometimes when i try to start it it acts like clutch is not engaged. I know there is this part that has a button like feature that gets pushed in when you put the clutch down and that lets the car know the clutch is in. so i get under and check it out and i can see it.
so i get in there and push it in manually with my finger and push the clutch in because there is another like it on the opposite site of the clutch that comes out when you push the clutch in and ave someone turn the key and my car will start.
now what i believe it is the metal piece that pushes the button in. it does not push the button in as far as my finger can. or it may be that actual the white piece itself.
has anyone else had this problem? Help me out i hate having this thing sit in the garage on these nice weekends!

I believe that first botton that you pushed in is what controls the the starter interlock. Unless it is engaged, the car won't start. This is a simply a safety device that keeps us from starting the car while in gear.
If it is not getting pushed in far enough, then the switch may not close. I'm not sure if it is a normally open or normally closed switch. Options could include:
- see if there is a way to adjust it's position so it gets pushed in enough by the clutch.
- Maybe the switch is faulty and replacing it would solve the problem
- test to see if it is normally open or normally closed and then just mount another switch under the dash lip that you can press with a finger to start the car. This last one will also act as a theft deterrent since no one else would know about it.
