aem ems and oil burning + cast manifolds

Hi guys, new to this forum.

Searched a lot, the only cast manifold I can find is by HKS. Does anyone know what it's flanged for? What wastegate, and what turbine? Are there any other cast manifolds?


Also, I was thinking of running the aem ems, but reading through their manual for the fd, It mentions sometihng about the fd burning oil 100:1 for every bit of fuel that goes in the motor. There is a limit of the amount of oil that can be burned. Is there a way around this other than using premix? At what hp limit / injector limit are we talking about where the oil burning is maxed out?

The HKS unit is flanged for any old full T4 turbo, usually with a divided hotside. You don't want to run anything smaller than a full T4 (generally speaking, there are exceptions). I'm not sure about the wastegate... I think they are flanged for the 4 bolt racing wastegates? I have an older HKS log manifold and it's designed for the standard series, but I don't think the divided cast manifold uses that same one.

The "oil burning" is the amount of oil that is dripped into the engine from the oil injectors, which is electronically controlled by a stepper motor. I'm not sure how the EMS controls that (as in, what table or whatever in there). The AEM EMS is a great computer, but you will find limited support for it for our application. The Power FC is the most common, second would be Haltech probably. On the Power FC you have some very limited control over the rate of oil injection versus temperature.

Personally, I wouldn't run an AEM EMS unless you have a tuner you really trust with it (the EMS as well as a rotary) OR you are very adventurous. The problem is that there aren't many basemaps floating around. The sequential turbo system, injector staging, OMP, accel enrichment settings, idle control, etc are set up in the software differently than say the Power FC, so finding information on what settings to use will be a challenge.

first of all, i really appreciate the help!

i've tuned a bunch of aem ems cars including dsms, mr2s, 240sx's etc
making a fresh new basemap is alright. i'm sure it a bit more challenging with the rotary. im pretty sure i can figure a lot of it out, however the oil burn kinda got me confused there must be a relationship between fuel duty cycle (stock injectors) vs oil injection

anyone know what this is?

The oil injected is primarily used for apex seal lubrication (similar to 2 stroke engines). The injection ratio is relative to injector duty cycle, having larger injectors than stock will require more oil injector output. The increase can be calculated by dividing the rated injector flow rate by the stock injector flow rate, ex: (550+1600)/(550+850). This will give you the output increase necessary.
Note: don't forget to take into consideration the rpm when secondary actually comes on.
