help me estimate value of 95 rx7

I honestly don't know a lot about the RX7. I'm thinking of buying a 95 for SCCA solo racing. The car has 40k original miles everything is orignal. The compression was in all in the mid to 8's. The car is completely stock with a perfect leather interior and sunroof. It is black and has about 10 door dings and the front bumper cover is a bit roughed up. other than that it looks great.

What would this car generally be worth and what should I worry about?

How long should the engine, clutch ect... last?

Please help me with any info you can to help me be more informed. I'm taking it to the performance shop that works on my other cars this weekend to get it up on a lift and inspect it, what should I look for?

For RX7s and Supras nobody goes by KBB or NADA. Its all based on condition and rarity of the car. 1995 is the rarest year with only 500 ever made.

It doesn't matter if it's a 95 or not, if the paint is beat up. If everything else is in excellent condition (especially interior), then it's worth $17-18k, most likely. It's a tough call, because some parts of the country demand higher prices than others.

if you are looking for a cheap rx-7 to race with..and are not too worried about aesthetics wise...I would probably look for a 93...b/c they are cheaper to come by (esp. red) starting here in california is about 8k (if you wait for one) and rarely over 15k ...and a since a 95 is said to be "harder to come by" since there were actually i think only like 68 black 5 speeds *i forgot where i got that number from* sold in US, the seller might be looking 16k+

side notes:
I got a black 95 peg **earlier years were called the touring model** for 17,500...clean interior, non bose, leather seats, sunroof, no rear wiper & no exterior dings (minor rock chips on the front bumper) with 70K miles i think it was
-this was probably 2 years ago though

I also got a chaste white 94 touring, black interior, bose system, sunroof, rear windshield wiper with very very low mileage though for around 12k *if you subtract all the stuff on it..for the aesthetics end*

so considering it's a 95 low mileage....I would still stick to my earlier 16k+ unless you find a deal like my white one...

Welcome to the Rotary world.....

oh yea...and your earlier question about how long the motors last....**not that long** <=-=-who can vouch for me

9 would be a perfect engine. mid 8s are very good numbers, provided the test conditions were as Mazda specifies.

If that smart comment makes you feel better, than fine. LOL

But my definition of rare is scarce, and only 500 '95 RX7s exist in the U.S. thus making it rare. Doesn't matter where else they are made, not like you can get a hold of an FD in Japan and import it here at a reasonable cost.

Fewest ever made. (Made to US or Canada specs). Is there another country with RX-7s made with the same emissions equipment somewhere?

I guess my question is: will it be taking abuse? By the definition of solo, must it be 100% stock? Nice 95s like that are getting very rare, and it makes my heart sink if it's gonna get thrashed. Or to rip out the interior and put in aftermarket stuff. That's just me. But then again, SCCA isn't going to pound up miles, either. The leather seats won't be as good as the R1/R2 seating option, since the R1/R2 seats keep your butt in place really well.

IMO, you may find it cheaper to find another car with a few more miles, new mazda reman engine, and replace whatever parts you need to with stock replacements. Stock replacement parts aren't hard to find for critical items.

That 95 could probably sell for close to $20k if the seller is patient enough. Anything in the 15-16k range is a great deal.

Well I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it now. Test drove it felt good, kind of slow but I just added up the numbers and my STi that I do solo with now is probably cheaper in the long run. So I'm going to stick with that, but if anyone wants the guys number just PM me and I'll give it to you.
