headlights randomly Turing on when car is off.

its a 93 RX7 US model. I was working on another car in the garage today and the head lights just randomly popped up then went back down. Then a few minutes later they did it again. It kept happening till i unhooked the battery. It was intermittent though. Any idea what would cause this? The car had been sitting out in the rain so maybe the headlight relay got some water in it? Or could this be alarm related? The horn did not honk. I am unsure if the lights came on or not i wasn't watching that closely.

Most likely something with the alarm. The alarm can do some weird stuff sometimes. If the car wasn't locked I'd look elsewhere though.

I'd disconnect the CPU #2 and see if it keeps randomly doing it in the garage. If that stops it, something probably crapped out on the alarm portion of the module.

I disconnected the black module on the drivers side foot well. I think there was a 16pin and an 8pin connector. That seems to have worked. I don't think the factory alarm is necessary. Its more of a false sense of security.

Just FYI CPU 2 does control more than just the alarm system.

You can still get a new one for a fairly reasonable price, or I think some members have had luck having the board repaired.

any idea what else it controls? I probably have another one laying around in the garage I can swap out to see if that helps.

How are the relays along your front support oriented?

Off the top of my head it controls your warning light/buzzer for things like low coolant. There are a few other things I think it does that I can't recall off the top of my head right now though.

Which is CPU 2, the black module? I have the same issue with my '93, although it went away when I started the car a few times. My bigger problem is I'm hearing a very slight arcing sound coming from that area. There is no smell of burning electronics, I unplugged the black module which didn't stop the sound. I have had the click start problem in the past, but that too has stopped. The car does have a Lojack in it, I don't know if any of the electronics from that are in the foot well.

These are stock headlights. Unplugging the black computer has so far solved the issue. I need to research what else that box controls.

here is an extremely helpful link that describes all the connections/connectors. At the bottom of the first post is a download that shows all the pin outs of each connector.
