Correction, ~$7,000 for a six speed gear set. You have to reuse your stock transmission housing, and it may have to be modified to some degree.

I'll bet the 6-8 weeks delivery time is actually 6-8 months as well. That's been my experience with every "custom" part I've ordered from Japan from any vendor.

HKS makes a gear set like the Greddy, but doesn't use the dog gears friom what i read on here.

Knowing HKS, it probably costs more too.

But what would be the real advantage of a gear set like this, isn't the input shaft the weak link in this transmission? (At very high power levels)

You'll end up spending just as much if not more trying to get one of those trannies to mate to a rotary.

But using a Getrag 6 speed out of a supra or Skyline has been an idea I've been toying around with for a while. I just pulled another supra tranny and I'm going to make a template and take some measurements of the input shaft and everything to see just how hard the swap would be. Those tranny's are pretty much bulletproof and wouldn't mind having one in my FD. I'll let you know how it goes.

last time i checked the quaife 6-spd sequential crashbox was 12K. then u have to adapt it to fit the cosworth sierra bell housing. in conclusion, major cha-ching and a non-streetable box

Quaife makes a gear kit for RX-7 transmissions also, and as HedgeHog mentioned, they'll be more than happy to sell you a full sequential gearbox for upwards of $10k.

But Jim...what do you think about the knock off version on Ebay thats $150. Dont you think its just as good? Should I get it? I bet this Ebay company is the real producer of all the parts and Greddy is just buying it from them, marking it up to $7000 and putting thier sticker on it to screw all of us.

Damn, I'll have to find the link again for that tranny on Ebay......it was right next to all the bad *** used J spec engines for $1200 with 3000 miles on them.....which btw - thats a steal too!!! Its J spec for Christ's sake!!!!

You think its a good idea...should I buy it

LOL

Absolutely. That high-rise pseudo-sequential shifter is the greatest invention since "The Clapper". You can ratchet up and down through the gears and still have to use the clutch just like everyone else.

The input shaft on the stock FD tranny is supported by two bearings spaced not far apart. Both are known for making noise and failing early - I suspect it's because they don't do an adequate job keeping the input shaft centered.

Oh, and 2nd synchro /clutch assembly was updated in early 94 to reduce the 2nd gear shifting notchiness. My car was produced after the TSB, yet the new 2nd synchro looked to be an updated part.

I don't know, Jeffrey S. Johnson. Why did you?

Maybe because Kevin ran a corrected 10-second quarter mile with his stock engine and clipped twins long before anyone else was even close, including good old Adam Saruwatari. Kevin's ASP Racing intercooler is still widely considered as good as it gets where SMICs are concerned. He and Jeff Littrell finished 14th overall and 9th in SSGT1 in the One Lap of America while most of the current FD owners on the forum were still having their faces wiped by their mothers (some still are). He had moved on to a custom big twin setup before most people were even getting up the nerve to move to a single turbo kit. And finally, he's been an FD owner and tuner longer than most of even the "old timers".

So... what are your credentials, Mr. Jeffrey S. Johnson?

Mr. Jeffery S. Johnson just happens to be Kansas' finest mouth-breather who shows the bad habit of posting out loud, not only once, but twice!

But to his defense, it's because, "Pimpin' ain't easy"!
