Question gas smell, need help

I just bought my first FD, and i have noticed a strong gas smell. I am trying to figure out what it is. Every once in a while my car doesn't start up right and dies. I'm wondering if the gas smell has something to do with my problem. PLEASE i need some help?

Sounds like you got an FD with high mileage. Replace the fuel injectors and pulsation dampener and get a compression test. Also, use the search function.

Sounds exactly like a dampener problem. Mine went at about 60k miles. Check the other thread, I posted you a diagram.

yea, i remember the diagram, thanks.

the fuel pulsation dampener is exactly what a rotary mechanic i know told me too. He said it is either that or the injectors, or both. Anyway, i'm getting them replaced real soon.

Thanks for the help

You can get the Fuel Dampner and primary or secondary injectors from Rocky @ RX7.com

I just went through this. My prob was a primary injector was leaking, looking at my mileage (117k) I chose to replace both primaries and also the dampner. I only needed one primary, but I'd rather know they were all in great condition than face a possible fire on the road from a future leak.

Rocky save me quite a few bucks over the dealer parts price.

Fuel Dampner was $138
Primary Injector was $195 each
RX7.com T-shirt was Free
Decals were Free

hey, i just picked up my newly ordered pulsation dampener from the dealership. i am not at home to compare yet, but i noticed that it looks a little different. it has the rubber plug thing at the top still, but it doesnt seem to have any vacuum line coming out of it and no banjo bolt at the bottom. did i get the wrong part??? the mazda part number on the box is: n3a2-20-180 and it reads "dampner kit." im going to flip a bitch if it is the wrong part, my car has been in hibernation for over a week now...
