That hose runs from your air pump and is meant to plug into your main cat. It's for better emissions.

but the steel line that comes from the converter is t that short originally or is it longer so the rubber hose doesn't get hot when it becuase the line from the converter is welded shut. maybe that would be a reason that i not passing emissions. hey fenda monkey could you provide a pic to compare orginal air pump hose?

Unfortunately I can not.... :-(

I don't have the original hose anymore (or even a main cat for that matter!!), however when I originally took it off it was just a rubber hose. When it comes to inspection time I just swap in my spare hi-flow for the MP and use your standard rubber coolant hose in the correct size to connect the cat to the piping. I'm actually strongly tempted to completely remove the air pump, just installing it again once a year ^_^

how much would it help to pass emission? is this a vacuum hose haven't tried running the engine and felling the pressure with my finger. and will it help the engine in the long run if i keep it disconnected since it would be bringng dirty exhaust air back into the engine?

No, it won't (shouldn't) hurt your engine at all. It connects to your Air Pump (Right next to your coolant filler neck, there is a 90 degree hose in my pic connecting the pump to your intakes).

When it is connected it pushes oxygen into your cat which helps the cat burn off the excess fuel better. It should *not* ingest anything, ever (otherwise you'd be injecting exhaust fumes into your intakes!!). I could be wrong, however I doubt it . If yours isn't hooked up to anything and you're worried about it you can always disconnect the clip on top of the air pump I suppose.

A lot, *if* the airpump is installed and working. Post a picture of your engine bay as well as your catalytic converter (if you have one).

sorry for taking long to reply well the first three are a pic of my engine bay and the last two are pics of another hose behind the manifold. this one is also not connected the car runs fine if anybody was wondering. i noticed that the stock manifold is connected to this hose. it is plugedhense the metal end. i have been degreasing the entire underbody and engine bay. i haven't checked if the hose to the cat is a vacuum or blowing hose since i had been cleaning the engine bay.

The previous owner of your vehicle completely removed the air pump (the hose connecting from the intake to the pipe by the UIM (Upper Intake Manifold) should have a pump between the two to force air along (reference my picture and use the coolant filler neck as a point of reference).

The hose that is plugged up next to your Greddy Intake elbow has to do with your AWS (Accelerated Warm-up System), aka, a horrendious way to torture the engine...

with out that pump i cut my chances to pass my emissions by half right?. i had failed a test with out anything done to the car. second test cleaned the throttle body out new spark plugs and clean fuel injectors. numbers dropped to pass for the 20/25 the 50/15 well did not really change which failed. recently i changed the oxygen sensor but havent taken it to emission i hope i pass this time but if this theory of the air pump is affecting the results i should try to .........

You could probably pass w/o the air pump... but you'd need to find an "understanding" tester, and it would probably involve you "forgetting" a couple hundred dollars at the shop as you leave with your inspection sticker.....

Otherwise, you've got about the same odds as a baby mouse in a snake pit.

Get an air pump, get it in there, get it connected, pronto!

Cut off the cap they put on there and run some high temp silicone hose.
You also need the check valve that is present in the stock system. You're not going to legitimately pass without the airpump and the cat will eventually die.

Not to hijack, but could this hose, if left unplugged, lead to any idle problems? Thanks

The only reason I can think of is that they had been running a free flow exhaust prior to selling. When they went to sell it they put as many things back to stock as they could, and just cut that corner.... is the nipple on your cat capped off, or open to the air??

any ideas where id pick one up and how much?
You can get the hose from any car parts store (I've not been in an Advanced or anything like that since I moved to England, but I'm sure they'd have it). I believe it's just a 1/2" hose (off the top of my head)... I'm just using a coolant hose in the correct size. But then again, mine is only on for (maybe) one day a year...

If you want the OEM part, call up Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda at 888 533 3400. He owns a modded FD himself, so just explain to him what you need

I would never hesitate to suggest Ray to *anybody*. However, in this instance I'm not sure that it's necessary....

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for using the right parts for the job, but if all they need is a hose to transfer air.... is there any point in going to a dealership? REGARDLESS of how full of win Ray is (he's damn near the top btw...)
