Front Cover Gasket Replacement

Did quite a bit of research on this and just have a quick question. From what i've found I should change the eccentric shaft bolt.

I'm wondering if I should replace the thermo pellet and the spring as well or if it should be ok. Also found that little video saying you can simply put 3 washers at the end of the thermo pellet to make sure it works properly.

Whats the best way to go and does anybody know what it would cost to replace?

Thanks!

So your front cover gasket is leaking and you are replacing it with the motor in the car? Not a fun job. Once you blast the main crank bolt off you have to be careful that the spacer doesnt ride forward and drop down in front of the needle bearing. If this happens once you re-torque the main crank bolt the spacer crushes the needle bearing.

Basically, you have to make sure the front stack stays compressed, one way to do it is to jack up just the front of the car and let gravity do it's thing.

This is what I use, or you can use three lock washers as well (M5? not sure on size).....

There is no reason the change the eshaft bolt. It can be reused. Just change the oring and put in a thermopellet plug. To get it to seal right you will have to lower the subframe and reseal the oil pan at the same time.

Sorry I should've stated I pulled the motor out of the car last weekend since I want to do some other maintenance at the same time. (vaccum lines, oil pan gasket & port waste gate). Planning on trying to lift the motor high enough on the crane to have it sitting upwards with the tranny still on. Don't know if that will work might have to pull the tranny haha.

Why would you suggest the thermopellet plug? This means there would always be oil going through? Im guessing just takes a bit longuer to heat up?

Is there a possibility of pushing the back too far when doing this?

I was planning on putting the engine sitting with upright with the front cover on top. Do i still need to hold the flywheel? Can it come out too far?

What is the best way?

If you do that you're fine. typically front stacks are assembled on the stand that way.

Well, if he's not replacing anything no real need to check endplay.....just make sure that the spacer sits flush on top of the plate underneath it, and that the needle bearing is around the spacer. There are small holes in the plate that you can use to manipulate the needle bearing with using a pick.

If you're going to all this trouble, you might as well install the metal front cover gasket (vs the paper one). They're hard to find, I know Ihor (rotary experiment seven) has a few at our shop.

Will be changing the front oil seal yes. I was debating on the metal gasket but decided to just try The Right Stuff after going through a few threads.

So I bought a couple tube and will be doing the oil pan at the same time.

Is there anything that could fall out of place behind the cover once I pop it off?
