Question Flow direction of the water pump?

Okay, my 7's having SEVERE cooling problems. I've got an upgraded radiator, FMIC, no thermostat, Datalogit to turn on the Fans at 81 degrees celsius, aluminum AST and GREDDY filler caps less than 2 months old.

I've been watching my PFC and have noticed that my water temps recently have climbed into the 100's! This is during the day when it's approximately 90 degrees celsius outside and I'm babying the car(meaning I don't take her over 4000 rpm's). It's been 90 for the past two months, and I'm normally in the 85 water temp range, but recently I've been getting these higher water temps.

When I first had this problem, I thought right away that it was the thermostat, so I took it out until I could get a stock one. I took her out for a spin and noticed that nothing had changed. I parked the car and made sure that fans turned on and that they were on high. They were. Then I felt the radiator, but on the right most side(the d/s for you guys in the states ), and it was cool. Then I felt the left side of the radiator and I almost burnt my hand! There was a BIG temperature difference between the left and right side...so my question is this...

Does the water pump flow into the top of the radiator and out of the bottom?

If this is true, then do you think that that is what is causing my radiator to have two different temperatures?

If not, then what the hell is wrong?

JSpec Racer: YOU'VE TO PUT THAT THERMOSTAT BACK IMMEDIATELY OR YOU'RE RUINING YOUR ENGINE. The FD has a high volume water pump. Without the restriction of the thermostat, water isn't around the block long enough to cool it. Moreover, without the restriction of the thermostat, there is less turbulent flow thereby creating hot spots in the block. Put it back before you ruin the engine.

poman...relax man. AFter I found out that it wasn't the thermostat, I put it in...I just put that whole "no thermostat" thing in there to let you guys know I tested it...

If the coolant flows from top to bottom, and you notice a temp difference from left to right, is it possible your coolant isn't passing through the right side of the radiator? Some type of blockage?

BTW, where do you live? If it was 90 degrees celcius here, I wouldn't be worried about my car.

lol ... I mean fahrenheit...

but I though it might be some type of blockage, so I took the radiator out and flushed it with warm water. except for a few particles, the water was fine, and it came out at roughly the same pressure...

this damn car is a love/hate relationship...

When she's running good, I love her to death...

when she's being a bitch, I want to choke the **** out of her...

JSpec Racer-
how you feel about your car is exactly how I feel about mine even after 8 years. Damn, if my wife hears about this, she would kick my ***, divorce me, take both kids and half my money!

I am not sure about why your radiator is hot on one side and cool on the other but it does flow in the top and out the bottom if that is what you asked. You may want to replace the hose between the AST and the overflow tank because mine got kinked and it took my water temp up to 114C before I noticed since it was idleing outside for a minute or two. Also what about the cap on your AST? Is it new, any problems there? Good luck man.

He is in Okinawa I think. I know it was always hot and stick all year when I was there.

Scott,

that line (I read your other post on this same subject) is okay, and my cap is only 2 months old on my AST. It's not kinked or anything, so it's bothering the crap out of me.

Yeah, Okinawa's still hot and sticky!

J,
I dont know if this will help but when doing a smog pump job(trashing it) I put the belt on to tight and the temps ran high but loosened it up a bit and they went down by like 5-6 celcius so give it a shot and loosen that belt and see if this helps.

but the rad being hot on one side and cold on the other is just weird wish I had a reason for this let me give it a thought dude I will help ya out

you da man!!!!!

Ryan,

Yeah, I tried it both loose and tight. I actually couldn't tell a difference in temps, but when it was really tight, I could hear the belt squeaking. Possible water pump failure? I took it out and the bearings seem fine, but !!!!!!

I'm giving her two days, then I'm cheating on her....with a jeep

Well, do you have high pressure in the cooling system? try bleeding the hell out of her use the hose that runs from the back of the motor the one that goes to the TB(mine goes behind the alt. now ) see if you got some traped air and use more water than coolant

let me know

-Rikki
Ryan,

Yeah I tried to do that too. I don't know !!!I've got an aftermarket radiator, but I think it's not enough in the 90 degree heat of Okinawa. I'm still waiting for the RX7store.net to sent me my aluminum radiator

I called Jason first about my Fluidyne but they were out of stock for 2 weeks due to backorder so I just went ahead and called another place and they had it in stock and I recieved it in 3 days so I was pleased but Jason still has better prices most of the time. Supply and Demand is the key to business and I wanted it and he did not have it so I had to look elsewhere. It is generally around 95'F here all summer and so far my temps have stayed below 90'C with a FMIC, Fluidyne, Pettit AST, and Greddy Pulley kit. Good Luck.

Wow...below 90 C with a FMIC is good. I've got the datalogit with my PFC and so I turned my fans down to 80 degrees to help combat the heat.

I REALLY wish I could get that radiator though. My buddy ordered it in December...It's about to be July now...so does that mean that Jason hasn't had any KOYO radiators in since December? Or has the demand been that great? Either way, I am taking my business elsewhere.
