FD noob freak-out
hey,
im practically new to the FD world, i bought my 93 R-1 about two weeks ago, new engine and turbos 2k miles.
today tho i was driving around the corner when my coolant light and tone came on. i nearly had a heart attack. i pulled into the nearest gas station and added coolant to the filler neck and some to the resivour... ran around the block and so far so good. no light or tone.
im thinking that when i had the thermoswitch replaced some coolant spilled out and it wasnt adequately filled again. i figure the sensor detected some bubbles and tripped the tone and light. no apparent leaks, and i dont see white smoke or smell coolant on start-up.
any thoughts?
btw... searched and searched and was still somewhat confused... like i said, im new.

Yeah for now I would drive it nicely and every time you go to start it.. when the engine is cold check to see the water level. Sounds like your on the right track though. Also when your parked somewhere for along time, look underneath the car. I had a heater hose leaking on me couldn't see it for the life of me but kept having to add water till I found it.

ask a mechanic (one who works on cars for money) how to burp your car well. A guy I know had a great little device , I don't know how to describe it, but we must've burped almost a cup of air out of the system, and that was after flush& refill with the TB coolant line uncorked.

easiest way to fill the system is to disconnect the coolant line to the throtle body to bleed air. yes, the level sensor is a ground. your coolant acts as the ground.

thanks for the input. its been a day and so far everything is still cool.... i'll keep checking the coolant level tho just to be sure and have the system "burped" soon.

No it's not Turbo'd
Don't check it that often... Everytime you open and close the rad filler cap you introduce air into the system... fill it, leave, it and just monitor it, 1X a week at first and then 1x a month...
