Replacing Rear Spoiler

Recently my R1 Rear Spoiler has developed a crack, I found a replacement.

My problem is getting the hatch trim off (Noob Question) do I have to take all three trim pieces off to gain access to the spoilers mounting points like the FSM says. I really don't like removing Interior trim if I don't have too.

Also how the hell do you pop these hidden clips. Help!

Yes, you need to remove the side plastics (#12) in order to remove the main plastic (#13) from where you can access the spoiler bolts.

You should pry the plastics out and do it very slowly and carefully. There are many internal pins and they are very fragile and can break easily. Your prying points should be as close to the internal pins as it is possible.
Best to get a suitable trim removal tool (should be avail at in any auto store) and if you fit the tool in between the plastic and the metal and just where each pin sits you can pry the pin out from its location minimising the chance of damaging it.
In other words if you break no pins consider yourself lucky.

Thanks got it, just waiting on Mazda for the 4 foam gaskets to reinstall.
Broke no pins, a lot of clips shot all over the trunk.

Make sure you use the foam gaskets. Without them, the spoiler rattles horribly.

I didn't have gaskets available for my 1996 whale tail rear spoiler. So I went to the scuba shop and bought some 1/8" thick wetsuit rubber material and cut them out of that. Works great!

I've used a gasket maker to make my own - it's come up pretty nice. I was impatient and couldn't wait for them to arrive on mail
