The boostless FD will remain boostless ....

Ever since purchasing my FD back in June of 2002, I've had boost problem after boost problem. Ripped vacuum hoses to check valves that split into two. So, when my motor went in July of '03, I went NS to hopefully rid myself of all those annoying boost problems. After getting it back up and running with a new port job and nice Haltech E11, my woes of boost problems were over with ..... or so I thought.
At first, the CRV was leaking (I should have blocked it off to begin with), then I kept having my BOV or CRV blow off under boost. After changing the clamps for the hoses they were located on, the intercooler coupling from the crossover tube to lower IC tube ripped in half. Couple bucks later for a silicon replacement, I thought I was in the clear. Unfortunately, my CRV exploded on me thus causing more dilemma.
Once the CRV nipple off the y-pipe was blocked off, everything was perfect. Sold 15~ psi of boost and quicker spool (who would think a boost leak would limit spool? ) Now, shoot forward a month to tonight, cruising along the freeway testing my new Gotham Racing short throw shifter (which I must add that I love), a little boost with some spirited driving when I become of aware of lights flashing behind me. "Oh ****" runs through my mind as I start to move over to the right shoulder, only to look in my rear view and I can hardly see the car behind me flashing their lights through all the smoke from my car. I immediately exit and pull into a gas station and kill it while leaving the cooling fans on just in case. Pull the hood latch and run out to pop open the hood to reveal ...... FIRE!
From what my friends and I can tell, oil squirted onto the exhaust manifold from the turbos and ignited causing the fire, and the failed oil ring in the primary caused the loss of oil. This set of twins has around 60-70k on them, not a bad life span for them. Now, I am contemplating what single to choose hoping my car will be satisfied with it and allow worry free boosting ....

Wow, glad to hear that you got the fire under control.

I saw Ryker's cooked FD up close and personal and it was horrible

Damn dude, what the hell are you doing to that car? I've never blown up as many hoses, valves, and connections as you have, and i've owned these cars for almost 7 years.

Sorry to hear about that...but it does open up more possiblities for your FD

1. Go Single - With lots of kits in the market from T04E to T04R. To T60 and massive T51R kai turbos ... You will be spoilted for choice...
2.Go Upgraded twins- Aka BNR stage 3 or the more exotic KnightSports RF420(fancy name for upgrade twins)
3. Go Big Twins - Rarely seen on FDs but there are some. Some of the twin turbos kits are like Border's twin AX turbos or twin GT2835R kits

It all depends on what kinda power you want , when you want it ... than divided that by that amount of money you got ...

I really don't know, car has 151k on the chassis and most of those parts. Guess she just wanted an upgrade.

Yes, plenty of choices but down time is crucial as it is my daily right now. If I can pick up a daily quickly, then large single will be the route. If not, a twin replacement will be in the works.
