What was that "automobile appraiser" smokin

$68,000?

Wael is a great guy, his car is extremely nice, but I'm sure he knows the appropriate value of that car.

I really like that car, ive seen it on efini.net but he has got to know that that car isnt worth over 20k. Its one of the nicest FDs i've seen, with no expense spared on some very nice parts. Sure its been babied and has a new motor and nice mods including a very expensive stereo, but its still a CYM with 93k .. $20k MAX

edit: I saw the BIN for $29k. Still a little high in my opinion, but I think this car would get 20k max. It is so nice though

The car is owned by Wael El-Dasher from "the Big List". He knows what he wants and is not afraid to pay for it. There is nothing wrong with that.

A stock CYM goes for more then $20k unless it's all dented and tore up.

He can probably get $30k for it.

If anyone is interested in buying the ASP headlights Wael had on his car, I'll be posting them for sale. Bought them, and circumstances say I won't be installing them.

I think it would be a no brainer if I had 30K and was looking for a 3rdgen - though the cym would make it a bit harder (cym is like my 4th favorite FD color).

I believe he has spent the money he claims and respect the fact that he had it to spend (I dont think I'll ever have that kind of money to spend), spent it the way he wanted (even if I had it my wife would cut me off if I spent it on a car), and is ready to try something new.

Lets say you were shopping for a cym. You can pick up a beatup one for 16K, and clean one for 20K, a slightly modded one for 22K, or one that has 150K of work appraised at 68K for 30K. hmm...

wow, 30k seems like a reasonable price considering the effort that has gone into it, a true work of art

I'm sure it wouldn't bother you if you had the money...

This guy has more money invested in his home garage than some of you have in your cars.

93blackFD, are you just trying to show your ignorance?

Wael's car is perfect. $20K would just buy a nice stocker or mildly modded car.

Let's say you bought a 93 in decent condition for $13K...

Quality Wheels and tires $3K+
IC $1-1.5K
Exhaust $700 (dp, cb and hf cat)
gauges $200
motor rebuild $3K
etc
etc
etc
etc
etc
etc

Hmmm, lets see that is more than $20K and I haven't even begun to add up what it would take to duplicate that car. I bet you have more $$ into your car that doesn't run and is not nearly as modified.

Your the tool schoolboy. Go put another t-shirt through your turbos.

Beautiful car and IMHO worth the 30k if you have it. (This car would probably tear 90% of the cars on this forum a new *** on a road course)

I believe it is well worth the 30k he asks for it. That car is extremely nice.

I still don't really understand why our cars are worth so little once we have a ton of money invested in it. I think we should at least get some of what we put into it out of it. It is kind of rediculus.

It's all in the name.
Think if it had the Toyota name (Known for quality AND performance) then I bet we would still be selling the FDs at near sticker price just like some of the Supra's do.

That and most FD owners are hard up to get out of debt and sell there car for far less than they are worth. Not to mention all the 16 year olds who expect the car to be cheap, that parts to be cheap, etc...

Wael's car is a perfect example of what a mint and well maintained car should be.
Even if you don't agree with all of it, the man and the car deserves the upmost respect from the community.
He has had it for sale for awhile, but I guess he finally decided its time to let her go.

His stereo system alone is probably worth more then some of our cars.

I hope the next owner realizes what he/she is getting and takes care of the car as well as Wael has.

It always saddens me to see one of my fellow long time owners selling their cars, especially someone who knows the rotary so well and has contributed much to our community.

Actually, not only is Wael's car definetly worth every penny, what he did w/ getting the car appraised is pretty damn smart. If you total your FD, which I'm sure many of you are familiar w/, you know insurance is gonna SCREW you on it. They'll pay NADA value, or what they call "actual cash value," ie like $11k - $13k. That's retarded, given you may have put in tens of thousands of $$ into your car, and it's now worth much more.

There are some professional appraisers that know how to take into consideration serious modifications, and just like you said, the REPLACEMENT value...ie how much would it take to replicate the car...parts, custom paint, and of course unusual labor like relocation of certain controls, etc (not sure if they take into consideration the basic labor for modifications).

If anyone's really concerned w/ their FD as a depreciating investment, get your car car appraised, and get some classic/exotic car insurance on it, cuz they insure the car based on agreed cash value (you specificy the value of the car, such as per the appraisal value). and if *God forbid* it is totaled, guess what? They pay you the FULL amount you specified, no questions asked.

As for Wael...i wish him good luck finding the right buyer, cuz I pray that incredible machine doesn't fall into the hands of some irresponsible fast & furious junkie who'll have it in a junkyard in 6 months...

EDIT: $20K max for any CYM? dude, it's more like $20K MINIMUM for CYM. the lowest Ive seen one in decent condition go for was $19K, and I regularly see ones for low to mid 20s go at PFS and on ebay...

Price of FDs

I think most people can't get past the blue book. And japanese cars don't seem to fall into the collectable category much. I think you SHOULD be able to get 50% back on your mods.

I kind of don't understand selling the car in the first place. Perhaps house purchase?
