Easiest way for a compression test.

I've done many compression tests on piston engines; this is my first time dealing with a rotary. I have the gauge and aware you want three cranks with the valve open.

What's the easiest way to get to the plugs. Take off the metal intake? Aslo what is the 'circuit upening relay and ignitor connect' as it says in the service manual. I have absolutely no experience with rotarys.

Yeah I read those; i'm just more wondering on the hand fitment issue. Removing the metal intake tube is pretty obvious to get down there and wont effect the test; just wondering if there were any other things to remove to get to them.

I think i should manage ok though; thanks.

thats it, just the intake elbow. Its a tight fit and nothing else can really be easily pulled to make it easier to fit your hands down there.

I found going from underneath was the easiest thing when I changed my plugs, and the next time when I did my compression test. Of course, I do have a lift here at work. I put one of our fancy $1k battery chargers on it, had a friend hold the gas pedal down, and cranked it while I was under the car watching the gauge. To my surprise, 95-100 psi, on all three faces, on both rotors. This is on a reman with 90k on it.

It's the ignition fuse; 3rd fuse in the box by the battery.

I remove nothing. Just the plugs. I reach in from above.

But if you have the cruise control or thick arms it's a lot more difficult and removing the elbow helps a lot. Just remove only one at a time so you don't get your plug wires crossed.
