drove a 7 for the first time

WOW! I cant beleive how smooth and powerfull it was. I had a previous post asking if an fd is for me, well it is! I must have one! I just don't know witch one to get. I looked at one that had a motor with tested 8.7 compression, greedy fmic, non seq, full exhaust, power FC and comander, 850cc injectors and some fan mod and lots of other things. he is asking 13k, not bad I thought, the engine idled a litte over 1 rpms about 1.1 or 1.2 ish. He showed me 4k reciept from RP showing evertynig that was done to the car. he bought it and bassically took it there and said " fix anthing that is wrong with the car. it is red on black leather. Or the safer route is to buy a red R1 in excellent condition... stock, but with a 3year warranty for 15k. what would you guys do? keep in mind this will be a DD. Thanks

if you're gonns mod you're rx anyway buy it with it done as that sounds like a good one. modding may invalidate the warranty on the R1 anyway so should something go wrong you'll have paid for the mods and the cost to fix it.

daily driver then you may want the R1 due to it being stock. I don't have an RX-7 but this is the information that I usually hear members tell new comers about daily drivers. Reliability mods that make the car run cool is what you want.

good ****, i wanna test drive an fd already, lol. but yea i would go with the r1, but the other one looks like a good deal considering all the stuff he has done to it. but any way i would definately go with the r1, because i would want to mod it myself, thats the fun part! but if you do decide to go with the r1 get all your reliability mods before you do anything else to the car. but like mr.tim said if you were going to mod your car in the future its good to save some cash and go with the modded but w.e. good luck on buying your rx7!

I've been daily driving my R1 for awhile now. She's not quite Stock... Dynoes around 290rwhp. That's still pretty tame as some guys out there are putting out 450+ to the rear wheels. Anyways, everyone I know here in OK has basically had more problems with more mods. Me and ERXRX7 are both 'light' to 'moderately' modded and doesn't seem like he has many problems. I just have a boost leak...

I'm going to try and take a look at the R1 on saturday. The thing is I probably can't mod it, but who cares its a rare sports car that is way better then any z28, ws6, or mustang that is all moded out. I would really like to get the one for 13k, I would if it were any other car. Since it is an rx7 and I need a daily driver I am in very deep thought. Also I'm going to try and talk to RP about the warranty info because they are the people that fix anything that goes wrong with the car. May be they would let me do BPUs if I were to buy and have it installed by them. I have driven modded mustangs, z28's, ws6's, dsm's, 300zx's,lt1 vettes, NOTHING COMPAIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

I had a r1 and the suspension was a lot stiffer than a base or a touring....you feel everything so as a daily driver maybe the r1 isnt sucha good idea...but probably better than a modded one

I like feeling every bump on the road. Call me weird but I fell that I have more controll over the car. The only thing that bothers me about the modded one is that it has no warranty opposed to the R1. I will find out tomorow about the warranty info when I look at it. I'm taking 16 hours in school, and 40 hours at work. I need a car and dont want to have to shell out all that money for a blown turbo or motor. I don't mind regular maintance, just I want the big things to be taken care of. I would hop all over that modded one but its risky, after reading all these posts of blown motors. Just how exactlly does a stock 7 feel? is it good enough?

if you got the R1 would you at least do a radiator, fan and thermostat mod, and a mp/dp to keep temps down. Or just bone stock?

buying it stock will be your safest bet, but buying a modded one will save you more money

You can't own RX7 and not mod it
Or you belong to the other 1% of RX7 owners.

Hey, I still haven't gone over to the dark side.

Read the fine print on the warranty. The warranty basically says that any mods invalidate the warranty. Even if the non-stock part was on the car when you purchased it. Apparently you will be ok as long as you take the car to RP for warranty repairs. Search in the South Forum for "warranty". Lots of interesting old threads.

Good luck, sounds like a good buy on the modded car.

HELL YES!!!!!! just spoke with the owner of LA motor cars. the warranty includes engine, tranny, turbos cooling system, fuel system. Basically everything!!! to top it off a rent a car if it is to break down! I can not see it this saturday because it is getting a motor with 3mm seals in it at RP . last but not least, since RP does the warranty work if I buy and have installed buy them I will not have to worry about vioding the warranty!!! warranty still has 30 month 34,000 mile left on it. tell me this is not every FD owners dream!
