Question DP,Intake,catback......means new ECU?

Am I correct in saying that if I were to do these power/cooling mods I would need an upgraded ECU? If so then if I plan to do more to the car in the future then it is more cost effective to get a stand-alone ECU and therefore be able to adjust the ECU according to my set up. Two other mods that I would be doing (other than ast, radiator and vac lines) are an m2 large ic and a boost controller. After these 2 mods surley i will need a stand alone ECU.

anyone have any ideas about when and how i should go about my ecu issues?

thanks a lot

patrick

yep. It's the "3-mod rule" if you're running stock boost. You're right on the edge but hopefully running your stock cat to provide some backpressure. Get a tuned or tuneable ECU.

Depends on how long you plan on waiting for the 'other' mods. If ur gonna do the others in less than a yr it may be worth the investment and just take the plunge now. But if the other mods wont be for awhile then save ur money and buy one of the MANY ecu's out there modded for those 3 popular mods.....Its fairly common seeing a used Pettit ecu for arnd $350. And unless ur real **** w/ the ability to fine tune it to UR FD you cld probably send out that same ecu for rechipping for those future mods as well.
I own the PFC and I only have those same mods....w/out a great knowledge of 'proper tuning' this unit is completely USELESS! And unless you live in the TWO areas of the US who have the software and again the know how to tune them professionally, I wldnt bother.

Gdluck!

I don't live too far from you, I had a dp and catback and last winter I was hitting the fuel cut while driving it in really cold weather. Buy the ECu early and don't worry about it. I bought a power fc and have not looked back, it is worth every penny.

It is a fact that you don't need an ECU for several more mods, stock ECU + catback + downpipe + intake will still give you 10:1 or richer a/f ratio, this is REALLY rich. You don't need an ECU until you have the other mods to support higher boost levels and you want to remove the fuel cut. I post this about twice a week on this forum, if you want details or proof then search for 3 Mod Rule on this forum, there should be a half dozen threads.

ECU upgrade

I have a used PFS Management system, It was my friends that only used for a few months. It will need to be updated, PFS can do that for you cheap. I am asking $500.00 for it, that's a lot cheaper than new.

I Agree - I run all my mods (see sig) including a STREET PORT, on the stock ECU. I rarely hit the Boost cut (only on COLD mornings / nights) and never show less than 2 bars rich on my A/F meter at WOT. I do limit my boost to 11/8/11 however, using the stock PILL system.

Get the M2 ECU ASAP. You are running too lean as is. M2 says if you run a DP + anything else, you need a ECU. I was running a DP and catback and installed the ECU and it made a HUGE difference. My powerband was much wider and stronger. I am soo glad I did. Trust me, at this point it will give you a better gain than anything. Plus piece of mind.
