Dont think its supposed to do that?
(I searched and I searched but........)Well, driving home one night I was enjoying my new to me 93 Rx-7 with 70k on the original engine. I was about to pull into a gas station when my car started to sputter and idle terribly. I could hear the blow off vavle releasing pressure when shifting and the the stock temp gauge was still in the same place it always is. I just figured it was low on gas so I filled it up and took it out of the gas station but still had the same problem but this time I took up the RPMs and when it hit boost it seemed to sputter and backfire and just not wanna go any further this was at 3k. This all happened within minutes of my house so I just took it home reall slow. Got up in the morning to asses the damage, it was very low on oil but I had just checked it 3-4 days before and there was no smoke while driving just a small leak. Anyway it started after putting oil in it, but after I shut it off it hasnt started since. Well If you have had this happen or think its somthing real bad I would appreciate your help.

check boost sensor wire (located drivers side, its a small black box and there is a hose that plugs into side and bottom, usually hose on bottom comes unplugged) and its probably flooded

Its the MAP Sensor. check the one
Check the spark plugs.
Got any check engine lights? Could be in limp mode.
Lots of possibbilities. Before dead motor.

did you try resetting ecu?
change your oil and double check sparkplugs as well while your at it.
P.s. what rpm are you idling at and what vaccum at idle are you pulling? what boost are you going up to as well?

I'd say this is the problem, but usually when this happens there is a shitload of smoke out the back

Theres an engine light when the key is in the ON position but when we tried pull starting the car the engine light would go off as it was in gear and the engine was turning but the engine did not fire. Also the car sounds completely normal while turning over but does not start. Not to much smoke really and I do not have a boost gauge to check the vacuum or boost pressure. Also if you could fill me in on where the map sensor is that would be great. thanks all.

why the hell are people so quick to jump on the new motor theory.. jesus.. atleast lets help him determine that is the problem.. you had absoutly no basis to make that determination yet.
Anyway Definetly check your map sensor. also Ground Ten to ground on your diagnostic box. see if you have a code.

Ok checked the car out just now and the boost sensor was disconnected. I connected it, took off the negative terminal to reset ecu then tried to start AND no go so now I am on my way to get new NGK's so if you know of anything else that would help me get my baby back on the road again it would be appreciated.

if you get the new plugs and it still doesn't fire, pull out the 20 amp fuse from the box by your left foot when sitting in the car. It should be the 2nd or 3rd one from the left on the top row. take it out and the car should run and get out the fuel that is residing in the engine. It is the fuel pump fuse btw.

after the car runs for a few starts and shuts back off, try plugging the fuse back in and start it. keep trying it until it keeps running with the fuse in.

I vote MAP sensor and if that is all hooked-up right, then reset the ECU.

i just worked on a guys car with the same EXACT problem.
first off... it was flooded...
second... plugs were soaked, so i had him replace them
third... map sensor hose was disconnected.
after you check all of this and let the rotors blow out the extra fuel, MAKE sure the battery is charged because it will most likely not start again, then flood again...
enjoy!

Well, Thanks to you all, you all helped me to solve the problem and the car is running good now but with a small oil leak that still needs attention. The boost sensor hose was probably the biggest part of the problem and it was flooded as well so I replaced the spark plugs also the fuel filter and it started right up and seems to be boosting the same as before. But thank you very much you all saved me lots of money thanks.
