Different OMP drive gears

Hello guys,

I have 2 different OMP drive gears in front of me. The one with the notch (1st picture) came out of my 1994 FD Type-R, which was poorly rebuild by some bloke in the UK.
The second one without a notch (2nd picture) I got from a rotary guy in germany as a spare part (because I damaged the first one).

Does the one with the notch belong in a 13B REW? And will the one without the notch fit my engine? Does the chamfered side have to go down also on a 13B REW? Or doesn't it matter?

The one with the notch does not belong to a 13B-REW. The one without a notch will fit your engine. The sides don't matter at all on the non notched end, per FSM the chamfered edge must face towards the engine block.

Well thats interesting. Any idea from which engine / car it could be? RX 8 maybe?

I have to say, its considerably lighter than the full one.

It's less a notch and more a groove .

I've built quite a few engines and haven't seen one like that. Quite possible it's an RX-8 part. I don't think it's from an FC.

Thnx for clearing this up! Does anybody know, if they are interchangeable? I mean, yeah, it seemed to work in my engine, but are there any possible problems?

If they are same thickness and inside and outside diameter , it ahould be fine. Just the one at the left could be lighter..

Hi,
Any chance somebody can identify the grooved worm gear today ?
I happened to find one in an engine.
No reason for me not to use it in an FD engine, but it got me curious as i couldn't find any picture of the same part, appart from this thread.

I know I have seen a gear like that in person on an FD engine at some point. Also I don't think it's an RX-8 part.

I don't think there's much to it, it's either a gear Mazda changed to later in production or something like that. Also I don't think it's better or worse than the "solid" gear.

I found also one w the groove in a ‘99 FD type R, it also has turbos w the ‘pills’ for the wastegate hoses built into the nipple just like the 280 hp style turbos but lack the abradable insert in the compressor housing like true 280hp style turbos found on an RZ

In a 280 hp 2002 spec RZ I just found a normal style gear without the groove
