Deleting Power steering
Deleting Power steering
So how does the car drive when you delete it? I see people do it but I would like a few people's opinions on how it makes the car feel after getting rid of it?
I have driven a Slammed honda with no powersteering and I really liked it, made it feel like a race car.

you barely notice it while driving but definitely feel th difficulty in paralell parking
the trick is to keep the car constantly moving so you can turn easier
I did the maval conversion

I've deleted my power steering, I find the difference almost negligable. My friend has also driven my car and his reaction was "I thought you told me you removed the power steering?"

You send your rack to Maval and they do a proper conversion to it (rather than just looping a fluid line):

i did the maval mod myself following the miata tutorial. pretty easy. i didnt have power steering when i go the car, lines werent even looped just off. i cant remember if i noticed a difference from no ps(lines off) vs no ps (done correctly) but i def love the feel of no ps. at highway speeds i FEEL like i have control and FEEL the car. parallel parking is a PITA but its not that bad you just have to learn how to drive it (slowly creep as you turn the wheel)
One thing i love about this car (well my specifically, no ps/abs) is everything is so manual. without the electronic bullshit. every aspect has such a great feel with awesome feedback!

IMHO - Manual is the only way to go. On the track you can feel the "angle" of the tires and it directly corresponds to the steering wheel position. When I auto crossed I would always over crank the wheel and the power steering would take a little time to catch up. I know that the fast auto cross guys all keep the power steering bu it slowed me down. Probably important to note that I am 6' 2" and 230 lbs and I live where you only rarely need to parallel park. I have converted both my third gen and my S5 vert to manual steering. The third gen is a Marval conversion and I put a TII rack in the vert.

If you do autocross/drift, don't you try driving without powersteering, it takes 5 times the effort to go from lock to lock.
If you track, by all means go for it. I have an old 260z on Manual Steering and Yes you can really feel the road much better

I know you did it all your self, but generally how much did it cost in materials? I plan on getting rid of the AC and the powersteering and I wouldnt mind getting rid of the ABS.. Less junk in the engine bay to confuse me LOL, I very rarely have to parallel park.. well iv had the car for almost 3 months now and I havent had to once heh.

hahah just kidding. its a little tough on the arms at first but shortly after u'll feel fine.. btw i run a 330mm steering wheel so its a little bit smaller so its slightly harder to turn but i have no problems

yeah but now you must be jacked and feel like a hero when people try turning your steering wheel and yell "how do you drive this thing" and just sit back and flex
