Well i put the car up today because i have a noticable coolant leak and upon inspection it seems that there are leaks from the radiator. I was reccomended to fix it temporarily till i can get a replacement that i could use something called alum-i-seal or sumthing like that. Basically he said that its something u put right into the radiator and its supposed to temporarily seal any leaks of the sort. I hesitated at first at the idea and wanted sum imput first. Seem liek a good idea or will it only screw up other things in the cooling system and engine?

My two cents on the matter. Since this guys "alum-i-seal" will probably cost you somewhere between $150 and $200, that alone is half the price of a Koyo. If you are running the stock radiator then this "alum-i-seal" fix will very likely not work on the plastic end tanks that are the probable culprit of your coolant leak.

A full radiator hose job can be done for around $50. See my post in this thread on that.

This install can be done in an afternoon by yourself with basic hand tools. If I were you I wouldn't half a$$ anything with the coolant system on these cars. Bite the bullet and fork out the cash or a proper coolant system fix.

 

the seal stuff is just supposed to be a temp fix and its liek 4 dollars for a tube. It seems the leak is coming from the end of the radiator. Does the stock radiator have liek two parts to it because theres a thinner cooling plate in front of the actual radiator and thats whats leaking.

 

I think what you mean by 'thinner cooling plate' is your AC condensor. If you are seeing coolant, it's probably dripping through the condensor. The AC condensor itself contains no coolant.

Even a used stock radiator would be better than the alum-i-seal. You should be able to find one cheap under used parts...

 

I've never had much luck with that Alumiseal stuff, but Bar's Leak-Seal DOES work. There are others but most are not compatible with anti-freeze and will in fact stop things up permanently if you use them with anti-freeze.

 

i say just get another radiator now before something bad happens. you never know with rex

 

coolant is the 7s life make sure you fix that before you go driving it around, get a Koyo if you want something cheaper and bigger then the Fluidyne

 

Don't screw around with "fix a flat" for your radiator. Do it right. Replace the radiator. I got a Fluidyne radiator at altered atmosphere for $400

thanks for all the imput guys. since the 7 is gunna be put away any day now i think ill just fix everythin gduring the downtime. :-)

 

Don't even bother with a band aid for the radiator. Do you want to risk a rebuild for a $500 part?

That said, try bar's stop leak. But you're risking a rebuild if the end tanks of the radiator give way.
