Coil Relocation Bracket - Gauging Interest

clayne posted a thread in January about relocating the coils to the drivers side fender/firewall area, where the cruise control is normally located. I was wanting an easier solution then going out and buying a 150 dollar saw to cut the 1/8th inch aluminum. If we could get a set of 20 brackets made it would cost around 25-30 dollars for the bracket itself powdercoated black. The thickness of the material would be 1/8th of an inch and would be T6 aluminum 6061. The only other things needed would be the 6 mm x 1.00 pitch x 25 mm length allen-head bolts, and the spark plug wires.

Now I have been wanting to do this for a while, and really don't have the skills to manufacture it myself, but for 25-30 bucks it seems like a good idea.

Here is a picture of a representation made with approximate measurements....

Take a look at Clayne's thread and how he made the bracket, it's basically the same bracket just in one piece, and it is laser cut aluminum.

It's an idea and I'm just gauging interest. If there is enough interest, I could probably put together the bolts, and spark plug wires, and make it sort of a set...

BTW, if there are any other brackets you would want and this is of interest to you, let me know, because price won't change much for a few more brackets included....

I've got the skills and the resources to have those manufactured, let me know if you need any help...

And I can make them look a little better in the process.

32" wires are about perfect. You could trim that down on the front trailing, but it's fine at 32" on all 4.

Very interesting...so this would basically replicate the project that Clayne did? Is removing cruise control a difficult job?

Keep us posted!

Keep us posted!

Cruize control is one plug, one cable, and 2 10MM bolts.

Yeah, maybe. I had planned on making my own. What did you plan on cost-wise? $25, maybe. Over that, I've got the tools and the time.

The bracket itself, bolts would be a few bucks more at a local hardware store...

Keep in mind this piece would be powder coated, and laser cut, and professionally bent.... Should be a rather clean piece.

Oh btw the price is qouted on the high side, kind of a worst case scenario....

I'm willing to pay reasonable premium for a pre-made "kit" for sure. If you include all necessary bolts, instructions, pre-cut wires, so that everything can just bolt right in, I'm definitely in.

And thanks jdhuegel1 for the info on the c/c removal! I had suspected that it would fairly simple to remove, but I just needed the reassurance. =]
