changing twins

On a scale of one to ten how hard is it to remove and reinstall the stock twins with the engine in the car?

It's not hard, but it can be a pain if the engine/turbos have a lot of miles on them as the bolts will be tough to deal with (and if you have a limited tool set). The first time doing it, expect to take 4-5 hours getting them off. After the first time, it goes much quicker. Here's a post which might help:

From where? LIM? Oil return lines? Exhaust manifold? There are many gaskets on that side which "attach to the block".

I just did mine. Its not that hard, u just got to have the right tools. Make sure to not strip the bolts or break the studs. Use a lot of WD-40 or Pb blaster to break in the bolts. THis was my first time.

Here a link to some pics...

1. PB blaster

2. REPLACE as many of those bolts as you can, studs too. You can of course get away with not doing it but I would recommend it

The best place is the dealer. The nuts are not cheap and just pray that you don't break or strip any studs. Replacing studs can be a pain. I would go with new nuts if they're damaged or if they've pulled threads off the stud. If you put damaged nuts back on, the next time they need to come off may cost you dearly.

Well i took mine out and in the process of putting them back in and i am having a real hard time trying to get the rear oil line back on. I messed with it for 6 hours and no luck but they were not too hard to take out. On a scale of 1-10 i rate it about a 5 but trying to get that oil line is really on my nerves so i took a break and started working on my anti drug my 10th ae project. 1 being putting a new air filter in and a 10 being a engine swap.

Spray the studs w/ PB blaster the day before thoroughly and let soak in. Especially if the have not ever been off or high miles.

That's cheating if you don't have half the stuff to begin with.

I wanna see a pic!! If you really have twins and not a single setup, still impressive. How many times have you taken a set of twins out and re-installed?

Like Mahjik said, the first time is kind of a pain. I have mine down to 45 minutes off, then 45 minutes on by my self. For the first few times, it's nice to have someone hand the turbos down and hold them while you match up the gaskets and bolts to the holes. here's a pic of my engine bay. As you can see, I have pretty east access to everything. Stock set ups are a bit more of a pain.
