Just pulled the twins

Ive had a coolant leak issue with my FD for awhile now. The back coolant pipe on the twins was leaking barely. Finally i got the twins out and couldnt find out where the leak was comming from exactly so i guess it was either the copper bushings or the coolant hose. All in all ill fix it.

Now, my car has 40K miles and the primary turbo has some shaft play (up down) None in and out. Its more than the secondary. I also noticed that inside the exhaust manifold their is burnt oil blackened areas. The secondary side has nothing. Their is nothing comming out to the IC. Not even a drop on my couplers .
Are my turbos starting to get tired? The burned oil stains in the manfold side scares me. Do most of you guys get this?

Oil seals in turbos FTL. I would know lol

Looks like all thats left is to pick up a set a 99 twins... or pull out the motor, get a rebuild and drop in some BNR IIIs.

The crack looks normal. If you didn't have any boost problems and the car is not smoking, keep using the turbos.

How much life you think the turbos have left in them?

Pick a number. Seriously. I've seen stock turbos last up to 120k (being beat on hard a lot) and I've seen them last 30k. You could be good for another 30-40k or you could be good for 5k.

I pulled my twins offto inspect and run viton vac hoses among other things. After removing the twins and getting ready to send to have modified to BNRs I went to a single that Ihave to install.

If you want power and not worry about maxing out you twins think about a sindle kit.

There are plenty of people who run twins with no problems and run some good power. I just went with the easier route because I work on cars all day and wanted my car to be as simple as possible with hp in the 400-500 at the wheels.

Good luck

I was just gonna say too, your engine bay and turbos look pristine! If you are taking care of your car, you probably have some time before they need replaced. If anything, since you have them out, switch to Non-sequential ... http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/3r...ov_nonseq.html

could increase the longevity of the turbos since they are already in great shape. You could probably even send them to turbocity.com for a rebuild just to be sure, then convert to non-seq.

thnx for the comments. I dont think im gonna go non-sequential..I really like the the sequential feel. When my turbos or motor does go out. im gonna go BNR for sure.

For now, since the turbos are out. I ordered some high temp silicone tape and im wrapping all the vaccum lines and coolant lines that go to/around the turbos and actuator then zip tie them down. Hopefully this wil help out with any future boost leaks.

I'll post pictures of the ones I pulled off my dead motor and installed on my current motor once I get the high flows installed. You wouldn't believe the size of the crack in mine and they still work fine (no smoke, noise or low boost) except on the primary, it's slow to spool on the primary because of the cracks in the web. You should be fine with yours.
