Cat on dp instead of mp

Well I'm running straight exhaust, but in order to "pass" smog, I need to weld some cat back on. Well I did just that, but the problem is that it got welded to the dp instead of the mp. Will this be a problem at all? I just wanted to make sure. TIA.

Wow. Did they weld up a high flow main cat to the d/p? I can't see that one that big would even fit in there. I would say you have a problem; hope I'm wrong.

This is precisely why, when **** has to be done to my 7 I either:

(a) Do it myself

(b) Take it to a place like KD Rotary or Rotary Performance

or

(c) Stand there and watch the dudes work on my car (for example new tires being put on).

Also, don't *ever* let them drive the car--unless you want it crashed into a 7 series Bimmer a la Project SCC.

Remember, Rule #1 is that People are Stupid. Rule #2 is that no one cares about your car like you do...

i would say that yes it will cause problems. the reason for having a dp is to take the cat out of that pipe. having a cat there causing extreme heat to stay around the turbos which will shorten lifespan. now if it is a "high flow" cat that they had in stock that they welded on i give it 3 monthes b4 it cracks and clogs then causes major probs. the reason is that the cats they use are not made to withstand the heat of our cars, i would say go get it changed to the midpipe. scott

Heh. Thanks guys for the replies. It actually is more complicated than that and I will probably be asking to them to buy back the cat and weld the piece they took off back on.

OMFG. I just called the muffler shop and they said they wouldn't do it since it was illegal. So like wtf. I'm not able to get that piece back on by them. POS if you ask me. They can put a muffler on a full exhaust, but not take it back off? That just ticks me off. I even forgot to pick up the piece so I have to go back and at the very least get that off and and weld it back on. Man this is a god damn mess. The only good I got out of it was the to weld the flange of the wastegate to the dp.

They took out the mp and replaced it w/ cat ?
I do not see the problem.

Okay...well anywho, liek I said those f*ckers won't install it back on, and no the dp is not ruined. I'll get someone to weld that sucker back on there and as good as new.

The question is, are you going to deal with this very 2 yrs that you get smogged?

If your exhaust is 3 piece (DP, MP, CB) then you should have just gotten a hi flow to pass smog instead of this cut and weld crap.

Well haha, like I said it's more complicated than that, but since its a single turbo there's no way in hell it's passing smog in CA. I might as well shoot myself. That's what the hook-ups are for . Visual inspection is over-rated. Just get it down by your firend right the 1st time.
