This can't be good... Catch can "fluid"

hey guys,

I opened my catch can today, and came across this;

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1375986455

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1375986455

It's a light beige colour with a very strong fuel scent. When I poured it in a glass, I could see that it separates into the beige-y oil and clear gasoline. The dipstick oil has the look and viscosity of used oil with a bit of fuel in it (as is to be expected), but the catch can fluid seems like it has way too much gasoline in it to be healthily coming from the crank-case. Is this normal?

I run 94 octane gasoline with a 75:1 pre-mix and synthetic Mobil 1 oil, if any of that matters.

Thanks!

Looks like water in the oil. What's your setup like?

My engine was built about 5K ago by a very well-respected forum member. I'm running a GTX3582R at 10 psi, 1780cc secondaries, 850cc primaries, CC3 intercooler, Snow stage 2 meth injection running pure water and a Power FC.

If you really want to know get an oil analysis done. They can give you break done of how much fuel dilation you have along with some other tells.

I'd Check your oil .. drain your oil see if its muddy like that.

oil catch cans normally have some sort of breather if that breather is letting condensation or water in it could compromise the oil in it . so I'd inspect the catch can as well .

and ofcourse ... are you losing coolant?

The catch can is hooked up via fuel-grade hose to the nipple on the oil stalk, where the factory PCV valve would be.

It does have a breather filter on the top of it, but no signs of condensation.

The oil on the dipstick seems fine, but I will drain the pan later this week and take a look at it.

It's moisture along with the oil dilution. It might be premature to worry about it. Lots of nasty stuff comes out of the crankcase.

So in the 2nd pic are we looking at the brown frothy stuff then like and inch of clear pure gasoline at the bottom? Or is that water? Or is thatpart of the glass and we're only looking at the frothy brown stuff?

If we're only looking at the brown stuff then that's pretty normal. If there is an inch of clear liquid in there you'll want to investigate further.

There is about an inch of clear liquid at the bottom. It separated quickly like water, but it reeks of gasoline. I'll take a better look at it after work and find out what it is.

If you actually let it settle, the layers will separate.
