Can FPD be eliminated without FPR?

Well all these freekin $100/ea expensive add up to too much freekin money (insert crazy lunatic dance). My FPD has not neaked and I can't find in in my receipts from the previous owner. I have it out and can replace it but it's $150 (crazy lunatic dance)! I can elimintate it but i'm running the stock FPR and don't know when in the future I will upgrade and replace. (fairy god parents)

there's an ongoing debate about this (atleast 2nd gen).

as long as you understand what it suppose to do and are ok with eliminating it- i don't see the problem.

I've ran with out a pd on my TII for about a year.

it's not as safe b/c you might get large shockwaves and be starved of fuel when you need it - esp with large injectors.

ok, but that's weird then. Isn't it connected to the primary fuel rail (or is that the secondary)? Isn't the primary on the block and the secondaries on the lim?

From what I've heard, it leaks from the rubber part on top !? Right !? And if you mix some high temp epoxy, you can make it last another 30k mi. But I'd start carrying a fire extinguisher around just in case.. and don't wait 30k....

If the FPD is leaking, then that means the fuel has eaten through the diaphragm. In this case, the FPD won't be working properly, anyway, and epoxying the top would almost be like eliminating it.

Mine isn't leaking. I also checked all my receipts but it doesn't show it being replaced on the previous rebuild. This was just sugested to me as a precaution since alot of people have had theirs fail and my engine is out so it would be easy to replace ...but i'm way overbudget!

What is piece of mind worth? When those things go out, you can have yourself a nice little engine fire.

Mine looked "ok", too, but I replaced it anyway. If you leave it out, you still need to get fuel into the rail somehow. How are you planning on doing this? Tapping the rail and installing a 1/8" NPT elbow?

the olde s4's were even worse

they had screws that woudl come out then leak. They fixed that on the s5's.

someone mentioned it earlier. It's all about piece of mind.

if it's under 150k i wouldn't worry. But it's jsut really easy to do it when ur rebuilding that makes it attractive to do now.

ideally you'd replace with new one but this isn't an ideal world.

Bite the bullet and get it man, along witht he coolant and fuel hoses under the UIM if thewy havent been changed either.. - As others have said, peace of mind for your new motor if anything. if it starts leaking you wanna tear off the UIM and ratsnest again? Or are you going single? Still kind of a PITA tho

you plan on welding some girth to the rail to drill and tap so you can go that small?
