Breaking Denso plugs

I am more then sure I know the answer but I really wish to hear this is common with the plugs. Every few weeks the tip of the porcelain likes to break off the Denso IRE01-31. I know the chances are detonation which has me worried. Engine was tuned last year and I do keep an eye on AFR's and don't see anything that gets too lean at any points. I only really see 15-16afr if I'm at extreme light throttle at around 3-4k rpm. I really wish I could get a knock sensor in the car as Im running the platinum sport 1000 so I cant tell if its detonation or not. Might be time to look into upgrading into an elite so I can get some more sensor onto the engine. Is there a better plug to be running that might not have such an issue? I do need them to be at least 10 heat range as im big single around 400hp but in Canada which means **** fuel.

I did break the ground electrode off to see how far back the porcelain breaks

It looks like you're rich and the plug is too cold, you could try a 29 (heat range 9.5)instead of a 31 (heat range 10). Are the breaking in all positions or in leading or trailing, and what is your plug setup?

"Might be time to look into upgrading into an elite so I can get some more sensor onto the engine."

looks like it is past time.

an all too common misconception is that 400 hp is mid level power on the 13BREW.

400/217 = 1.84. 400 is 84% more power than stock!

NO KNOCK SENSOR? probably no digital fuel pressure sensor either. you have no idea what is going on in your engine.

park until you have it actually ready to run.

your heat range is correct as evidenced by the half annealed ground strap. broken porcelain comes from knock. fix it or end up saying hello to the internals of your motor.

There is something very wrong if they are genuine plugs.

You need to confirm correct HV lead positioning, fuel pressure on load and tune conditions.

Its has been the front leading a couple times and the rear leading this last time. I do have a fuel pressure into the ECU and has always stuck right around 45psi. I am running the 10's in leading and trailing as that's what the tuner did to get it past 350hp (Canada does have way worse fuel). I am not sure if this a tuner error or what. I agree no knock sensor is terrible but 10 years ago when I purchased the sport 1000 it was not doable. I assume the plug are authentic but I do purchase them off RockAuto as they are half the price of what we pay for any plugs up here. Maybe I have to look at taking it further from home to get tuned

Warmed the car up today and did a compression test. front and rear housing are 90psi across the board so thankfully no motor damage. Talked to the tuner today and he was surprised as he said for this first tune he even had the ignition timing super safe, but that said no knock sensor is not helping me in any way. If I'm now starting the search for an Elite ECU is it alright to just hunt down a 1000 or should I be looking for a 1500 for any reason?

i had an engine customer that broke 3 front irons using the 1500. we talked to close to everyone including Jim Mederer and couldn't come up w anything but misfires out of the 1500. he switched to the Elite 2500 and had no further problems.

Was this a one off situation or a solid no go 1500? also any thoughts on the 1000?

I didnt know that Haltech was making the 1000 any more.

Personally, if you are going to invest in a new ECU, I wouldnt consider the 1500 or 2500. I would start with their S2 line. The S2 costs the same as the 1500 and has superior hardware. The S2 has more inputs, wifi and onboard Wideband. You can also run 2 knock sensors.

Here is a link to their ECU comparison:
