Running kinda lean
Running kinda lean
Kinda new to the rx7 forums, so hello to eveyone.
I have a 91 mazda rx7 convertable (non-turbo). During a regular maintence having a few things replaced, the machanic took off my used O2 Sensor. He looked at it and said "looks like your car is running kinda lean". I looked at the sensor, to which it had some white resedue on it.
Now i'm not getting any codes or alarms, and the car seems to be running normaly under road conditions. ALthough i have noticed that when i start it in the morning, it starts with the regular 3000 RPM started, then starts to idel down. But then seems to sputter at 300 RPM for about 30 seconds then stays at 700 rpm. what in the world could be causing this. Stuff i have already done so far to possibly remedy the situation, but no results:
oil change, replaced O2 sensor, replaced spark plugs and wires, replaced fuel filter.
Any ideas?

The mechanic is an idiot.
He's probably looking at the gasoline deposits on the O2 sensor.
If you really wanna confirm the car is running lean, you look at the *spark plugs* not the O2 sensor.

i replaced the spark plugs myself. Come to find out that the last person who i thought worked on my car, the idiot put all trailing plugs in my car. I took the plugs out. Oh yeah, they look nice and black, but not like super burnt or anything. But they definitly needed replacement. New fresh spark plugs (2 trailing,2 leading) installed. Probably need an idel adjustment or something. Anything eles you or anyone eles can think of?

People with moddified cars, especially ones that have been ported, run both with a 9 heat rating - the same as trailing. I do this myself, and have no problems at all. It really depends on how you drive the car and what is done, as to whether you need this.
