Blue smoke!

Once the engine starts, for a couple of seconds blue or some sort of light colored smoke is emitted out of the exhaust. What kind of problem or is this a problem? I think it's the oil that is used. Thanks in advance for the help guys!

Blue smoke comes from burnt oil. My car does that when I start it, and usually goes away after a few mins. I think my turbos are leaking oil into my intake piping.

blue smoke means you are burning oil which isn't a good sign if it coming out thick, it could potentially mean the death of your engine. I would have it checked out to see if there is a leak in the turbos or engine seals.

There is more of a chance it is your turbos getting old. I doubt it is your engine. My car used to emit blue smoke after start up for a few seconds then went away. I installed a single and no more blue.

Check your intercooler piping for oil that has collected. If there is oil anywhere in the piping then you are burning that. If not, you could be overlooking it or your engine is burning oil.

my car was burning oil when i first got it too. Smokey exhaust at startup, under high load, and when letting off the gas. The motor and turbo had just been rebuilt, so I was unsure as to why they were smoking. It turns out, somebody had capped off the breather valve on my oil filler neck which was causing the oil pan to pressurize. This made it more difficult for the oil to get back to the pan from the turbo oil return line. I removed the cap so my oil pan was under atmospheric pressure again......and no more smoke. Not even on startup or under high loads. Might just check that simple thing before checking more expensive things.

doesn't it have to do with rotaries injecting oil directly into the combustion chamber? so when you shut the car off sometimes there will be an extra amount in there which will burn off when you start up the car. i swear i read that somewhere.

hmm...sounds interesting, i think that if it's white then it's just the moisture that leaves that color (white)...but if it were blue smoke, then yah, i think it's the oil that's being burnt and i'll have it checked out Asap! The oil seals were changed just recently but I don't know if it has to do with that...but yah, possibly the engine might have to be rebuilt soon...also I've gotten radiator problems that the anti-freeze is getting consumed quicker than normal...hmm....what to do, what to do...

That is true however blue smoke isn't a good sign, every time you start it up it is normal for white smoke to come up lightly.

Mine will usually do the blue smoke thing if I haven't started the car in about a day or more. It's the stock turbos. They like to leak.
