definately. go to any auto supply store and get a compression tester. 30-40 bux. you can probably barrow /rent one out for 10 bux even.

that willt ell u your answer.

Yes the car will still run, even if you blew out all the apex seals on one of your rotors. It will not run well and the vacuum will be really low, as well as HP. Typically you do not blow only one apex seal, usually it is a cascade effect destroying all three seals, the rotor and the housing. If you did only blow one seal you got really lucky.

If it is the coolant seals that you are referring to, they cannot be checked with a compression gauge

Mostly idle. It wont wun as well at all times but it will be fairly unnoticeable above vacuum.

I can attest to this statement by Barban. I have an FD and it is at Gotham Racing right now getting a Mazda reman engine swapped into it. The old engine had a bad rear rotor that had blown apex seals. The front rotor was still fine. When I drove it, it had really bad idle at stops, but while moving, it ran fine, but with less horsepower.

Well frankly I drove mine like that without knowing and when Bryan at Rotorsports in NC tore down my engine(after I really blew it beyond it even strating up without a push start) he told me it was the worst he had ever seen. He doesnt bullshit either. If you find you have a seal going out you should save yourself huuuuuge expenses later and rebuild while some parts are still usable. I, on the other hand, only got to keep my eccentric shaft. Both my rotors and all my housings were trash.

That helps. Is the RX7's overheating problem ever associated with blown seals? And on the compression test, what sort of numbers are you looking to get? Out of the 8 i think it is?

The static compression is 9.0. The dynamic compression at best will be in the 8's. Above 7 is considered acceptable.

Overheating is not usually caused by bad apex seals. It is caused by the failure of the coolant seals. It loses coolant into the combustion chamber causing the add coolant light to come on. And low coolant leads to overheating. Overheating leads to the failure of this seal. Its a vicious cycle.
