2 dowels under oil pedestal( FD rear iron) Are they tapped?

I am trying to figure out a way to mount a trans(FC TII) onto the rear of the FD engine.
Unfortunately the Mount (threaded part to hold the trans bolt, the "ear" part)below the Oil pedestal area is broke.
So that leaves a couple questions to be able to fix this.

Can I Weld a bolt to the rear iron to allow the trans to slip on the bolt?(remember is is cast)
OR are the two dowels on the side of the rear driver's side iron,below the pedestal tapped and threaded already?If so what threads?.
If it is, I can run a L bracket to the 2 dowels and then drill a hole in that and use the starter bolt to secure that whole area.

Advice?Input?

If I am understanding you correctly, the dowels are threaded as trans bolts do go through them. Welding onto the iron is difficult as it is cast iron. Really you need to pre-heat it in a kiln to do ir right.

No..Wrong dowels my friend.I got the dowel locations that accept the bolts..no problem.They are not damaged.
Problem is The threaded area just askew of the oil pedestal is broke.So it won't hold a bolt.It needs a bolt to go through the trans and thread into the iron.There is no completed hole to hold that bolt.It's got a busted "ear".Some thread remains though.

The location I am referring to is a Square like section below the pedestal on the side of the rear iron,.There are dowels there.

..area looks like this : [ .

You can see the flywheel through this square part so assume it is a inspection plate that covers it???

was your engine an automatic? if it was the rear iron is/was different on the automatic cars, and that flat part is for the starter. an MT rear iron is different.

Thanks for responding.
I'll have to say YES the rear iron is Auto then.

The engine was purchased and had a aftermarket flywheel and clutch on it at one time though.
Only the flywheel is on it,with the counterweight now.(bought without the pull clutch as I was going to use the S5 TII trans in the FC).

I've pretty well thought of a solution to make the area more secure(to attach the Trans to the rear iron there) but I would like to know if those dowels have threads after the dowel,inside the iron,for bolts.

Automatic rear iron, M8 bolts hold the starter onto the side of the engine and trans.

just ignore that bolt // too easy .. no issue
. use a clutch tool to align the clutch and manhandle the box on , take it up lightly on a couple of threads on the other bolts

a couple of my personal FC blocks are missing that ear and it does not bother anything
and on my rx2 , that bolt is very difficult to access so it is left well out over neighbors fence

PS

once i started leaving that one out.... i stopped the splitting the rear plate around dowel thing, even on s4 engines

co-incidence?.. maybe .. maybe not

or you can run a slightly longer bolt through the broken ear and put a nut on it.

thinks he still may have to use the auto starter mounting points ( and m8 bolts ) to hang a bracket that will take the long bolt from the FC starter though

or use a slightly shorter bolt through the open ended transmission bell housing starter mount hole.

I went and got some 2-1/2 inch angle iron,so I am going to make a "Styx Apparatus"!
If the weather co-operates here I should be able to slam this piece on.
I just need to get to my Bolts bin to grab those M8's.

My idea is to make a plate behind that broken ear and attach it via the starter bolt dowel area.I'll extend a bolt through the trans and starter and through the plate too.
It really doesn't need that Much of a reinforcement but I would rather have Too much than a trans mounted with half it's bolts on.

I got the Job done.
I used a grinder and made a lot of noise for a little bracket!

I am confident I can get the bolt into that broken area too and nut it.
The starter is secured nicely via the bracket to the engine,bolt through the trans.
I'll try to post pics when I figure out the Screw up on this Laptop.It hasn't accepted pics since I hooked my Iphone to it.

If you are rebuilding the engine you can always just change the iron for the correct one.
