You can ask, but in the end settle for someone who shows up with a decent amount of cash money. Here's the problem with these cars. It's hard to get a loan for a car that's over 10 years old, and on top of that, you're asking for a significant amount above the blue book value (for a car that really doesn't make the best everyday vehicle.) So how many people have 19,000 cash lying around for such a car? You're looking at a limited pool of people.

To get 19k, the paint and interior will have in excellent condition. There shouldn't be any other major issues -- needs brakes, tires, no ghetto-rigged mods, no hack-repair jobs, etc. I know the engine rebuild is first class!
I would pay 19k if the above qualifications were met. I bought my 95 for 19k with cash, so we do exist!

i can post pics. the chasis has 125k on it i think i dont know if the first 2 owners have done anything prior to me getting it. i have only had it for about 7 months. i did have acouple of fd owners drive it and they said the suspension felt good and the car handeled really well. would it be better to part it out and then sell it stock?

Even in Cali, where FD prices are higher than the national average, $15K for a 125K mile car sounds about right, even w/ the new engine. You asking $19K sounds like you're trying to recoup some of the rebuild costs. *That* doesn't happen.

And really, from what I've been seeing, rebuilt engines in rx-7's are more like scheduled maintanence items that I write into my checklist when buying one. If a rx-7 w/ 125k miles is running on original motor, I'll consider it as good as blown.
That being said, you could ask for whatever you think its worth is, but just make sure to leave yourself enough room for negotiation, but not too much to turn away prospective buyers from even making an offer.
I just bought my FD recently(previously owned 4 FCs), and was looking at this rx-7 locally. The fact that the seller was a 17 yr old kid didn't warrant me much trust, knowing how these cars need extra tlc and a deep wallet to bankroll it. Also he was asking $17k for 93 w/ 125k, 50k on rebuild. Needless to say, I turned around and never looked back. Didn't want to hurt his feelings by offering him what it was really worth.
Good luck selling it. I would've been interested if it was white.

I don't exactly know what price I would sell it for.. but in all honesty.. if you put that much into it.. why sell it?
If you are even considering another 7 later down the line.. I'd just find a way to keep this one. 125k isn't bad.. but its hard to sell a car with that. I mean for my future 7.. its going to be a silver touring model... but with no more then 60k on the car. So good luck to you on your sale... I know the work was probably to notch but 19k for that car is really pushing it.

I bought mine from a dealer with a Capital One blank check. You can get one for a private transaction too. Basically, you apply for a loan from Cap. One and they'll send you a blank check that you can write for any amount up to the maximum amount you qualify for. Great for negotiating with people because you can cut a check on the spot. They don't care what kind of car you buy with the check.
And no - I don't work for them
