Question Help, mileage question.

okay this guy has an RX with low mileage with mods. I'm in So cal, and his car doesn't pass smog. So he took it to his smog checker, and the guy dyno's another car, and reports that car's mileage and dyno under his VIN. So now his car still reports the same low mileage but in DMV, it shows 70K mileage. but apparently the car only has 36k. Is this common?

technically it's illegal and you can be in serious trouble if anyone finds out, but I know of a lot of places here in SoCal where guys are cool like that and will do that for you. So you get these guys with high performance cars but turbo systems and gutted cats running race fuel and stuff like that passing smog with flying colors. All you do is just give 'em a little extra cash on the side or buy them lunch or something there's always a way around it

Just remember the odemeter is now considered non-actual miles car as documention shows a discepancy.

Thats only if you care about true miles, some buyers do.

Low milage cars do demand a premium as they usually are pampered more and unmolested. This cars true milage is now lost on paper and the premium is lost as well unfortunetly

you have any advice for me tripple 7's? I mean i can now sell it at 62k and say it's the actual mileage... But then the truest nature is that the car is 34k and is a show car. Never seen track, rain, or street racing EVER... (at least that's what the guy told me).. seems pretty cool as he keeps trying to hook me up with stuff... i'm just a little worried about this thing...

what i'm trying to do, is make it so that the the documents match up, so there is no discrepancy.. i guess now the premium of the "low mileage" on the car is lost... Now it's a "High Mileage" car...

i'd run a carfax to check the mileage history. what you are describing sounds weird.

Nothing seems worth the hassle on this deal. I would cut and run, find another car to buy.

This car is alittle risky, I would probably bail, for that price you can find really nice ones.
