18" IC Duct, including the ebay IC

I made this duct for any 18 inch wide IC core, but specifically for the Ebay IC. I bought a Pettit duct, but it is way too big for that IC, so I cut it down and reglassed it and made it look nice and fit PERFECTLY. I am talking to Shineauto about getting these made for sale by them, so I am trying to gauge how many people would be up for it. I don't have the time to take it on myself, or else I would try to do it, but if Shine made a mold off my duct, I am confident they would make a very nice piece. So please reply here with your thoughts.

I am already talking to them about it. This would require little to no effort by them, since the product is made, they just have to shoot a mold of it.

I have the xs IC and the pettit duct, so dending on fitment of mine when I get to that point, I very well could be in need of one. Might be a month or two though....I thought I was almost done with my build, but still making changes.

Man, if only I knew about this like 2 months ago. I posted a thread asking about ducts for this IC, but didn't get any replies.

Oh well, I got a V mount anyways, but this would have saved me some serious $$$.

Shhhhh, be quiet. The guys with the 1500 dollar IC's might see that and be offended.

Has anyone tested their intake temps without a duct with the ebay IC, compared to that of the Stock IC. I would almost bet the stock IC does a better job than the ebay one without any ducting which is how most people run it.

+1

Although it HAS to be better than the stock IC when ducted. The stock IC is worthless.

I'm interested in the duct, I will be running a custom SMIC about that size. I may even run the XS power SMIC as a temporary solution while I search for a nicer core.

Yes I did. Stock does in fact do a better job with the stock duct then without a duct on the Ebay IC. I ran the ebay IC for about 6 months b4 making this duct, and my intake temps on my PFC were around 60C on the highway, which is horrible.

It was something I had to experience myself, because I didn't beleive that a duct could make THAT much difference, and no way anyone could have convinced me. Now, with this Duct I see no higher than 35C on the highway, and 45C in heavy traffic. That obviously doesn't include standstill traffic, as an SMIC will heat soak.

That duct was made for a larger intercooler. Petit has a bigger intercooler than that thats over $1,000 bucks. I ordered the the duct which i believe was about $130 i think and then i found the same exact IC on Ebay for $145. Why did you choose to go with the smaller IC than the one the duct was made for?? I love what you did but im only bringing it to your attention because if you spet 30 more bucks you could of gotten a larger IC. Fits just like its suppose to and it does the job!

Didn't know there was a bigger one, but it wouldn't have worked for me anyway, as I would not want to relocate my battery, I already have the turbojeff battery tray.

I have tested the inlet and oulet temperatures (not the stock sensor it sucks) there is a thread about a week ago on IC temps I posted it there. Mine used a similar fiberglass duct. Efficiencies during boost were good. Pressure drop should also be good do to he open fin design.

Ohh yeah i forgot about the whole battery relocation thing. Well for those who did relocate there batteries the larger IC IMHO is the way to go. Looks really nice to!

90% of the ebay stuff works really good. Just a small amout are worthless. And when it comes to budgeting stuff ebay will and can be your best friend. Why spend 1200 bucks on a IC kit when you can piece together your own for under 400 bucks, and by a turbo!

I'd be curious to see what kind of performance is behind the Ebay IC. Pressure drop etc... While, an IC is (you'd think) a relatively simple piece of hardware, I've heard that there is a real science to putting the correct core design with particular turbo setups (flow etc.).

While I'm sure any cooler intake temperature is a benefit, I wonder where that benefit goes away... higher boost? Bigger turbo? Do they maintain their efficiency?

Is the 18" the total width or the core width?

Good catch, the core is actually only 12 inches.

Is your duct setup to run the I/C with a slim battery (ie: shifted to the driver's side) or in the original location? My intake setup prevents me from using the I/C that far towards the passenger side.

edit: also, what would the approximate price be?
