Vibra Technic Engine Mount Review

So I have been looking for an alternative option to replace my uethane engine mounts for awhile. Stumble upon Vibra Technics engine mounts for FD RX7. I have used their mounts for my BMWs in the past and like how they felt. In my M3, they were a huge step up from OEM mounts with minimal increase in NVH.

I was using Noltec urethane engine mounts on my FD. People say that these urethane mounts are as close to stock like in terms to NVH but I disagree. A little too much NVH for my taste. I wanted to go back to rubber mounts to minimize NVH so I decided to give Vibra Technics (road) engine mount a shot. Ordered them from their UK website for approx $350USD shipped.

Here is a pic of the Noltec urethane engine mounts... This is after less than 10k miles. Not pretty. Not sure how much of the NVH I have been experiencing is from that dwarfed mount. Needless to say, I am happy to have them replaced.

What I like about the vibra technics mount is that the design has a built in heat shield that protects the rubber from being exposed to the engine. NVH on these mounts are much improved compared to my old mounts. So far so good. Hopefully they will last me longer than the urethane mounts. If you are looking to upgrade your engine mounts but don't want the extra NVH urethane mounts add, def give these a try. They are on the expensive side but worth it IMO.

Thanks for sharing! Looks like they have a 420 model and a 430 model. Which one did you go with?

I went with 430 since I have the steel arms. 420 is for the aluminum arms I believe.

Wow, that one old mount was sad looking! Which side of the engine did it come from - driver or passenger? Also was the heat shield in place on the steel arm on the passenger side?

The Vibra Technic mounts look like a good option to have.

To me it seems the Noltec mounts was exposed to too much heat coming from the downpipe. As Dale Clarke asked, did you use the factory heat shield in its place? Was the downpipe wrapped?

Doing 10k on the Noltec mounts should not be an issue for them.

Whatever melted the Noltec mount will most likely melt other rubber/poly mounts as well.

But those Vibra-technics do look like a quality product! If I ever change engine mounts I would most likely get them!

Nice product. I'd like to see a cross section to know how it works.

Polyurethane (probably dempending on grade/casting method) doesn't like heat and oil. My home-brewed 3" diameter poly engine mounts last a few years before I have to slide in new ones during an oil change. The exhaust side suffers the worst, even with a shield.

I put a rod in the chest freezer and slice off a couple of 1" thick pucks when I need a new mount. I got my last urethane 20" drop for $30 and it should last me a decade. Low NVH (well, not compared to a bimmer) and the 80 durometer keeps the drivetrain tight as a drum, which is prio #1 for me.

How do those vibra thingies work?! It looks like a solid metal mount from the pic so I'm puzzled...

My original Noltec urethane mounts were ran without heat shield for 8k miles. Then I put in the inconel shields on my turbo, turbo manifold, and downpipe 2k miles ago.

The outer shell is aluminum but the center core is rubber. Here's a better view. Not exactly the same as the ones I have as I believe this is their older version but concept is the same.

Vibra-technics are probably well engineered and will be effective. But not sure you can blame the Noltecs. Probably have 50k on my set that were installed with the heat shield. No NVH over the stock mounts and they're still going strong.

How did i manage to miss this thread
How would you compare them to the OEM rubbers @hadokenny ?

For me its either this set, or trying out the FC Mazdaspeed mounts.

Can't tell you how they compared to the OEM rubber ones. I never had OEM rubber mounts in working condition lol.

How have these held up over the last year you’ve had them? I’d like to change my mounts for something a bit less aggressive eventually and mazdaspeed is $$$

Still feel the same as the first day I installed them. No complaints so far. Nice and tight without too much NVH.

I think so. May be email them directly? For some reason the engine mounts don't show up when you try to browse their site. I had to type it in google to find it. They had them on ebay as well.

Found them on ebay for ~US$157. Much cheaper than Mazda Comp which are ~350 for the steel arm and 4xx for the aluminum arm!
Was thinking of the mazda comp but that price is so attractive...

The price might be 157$ each though. Double check with the seller to make sure.
