NC Engine and Transmission Mounts

Crew,

I have (still) a 1985 12a S, all stock. I was thinking of replacing the 29YO engine and transmission mounts. Seems mostly straightforward - assuming the car is on four ramps and I'm using the floor jack to -slightly- lift the engine to get at the mounts. So, my question....any recommendations on mounts? I guess I had not given a lot of thought the variety that seems to be available. Stock? Racing? Stiff? etc.? I was thinking it best to do both engine mounts and the transmission mount at the same time (as in the same under-the-car session).

Anything I should be on the lookout for? Any gotcha's to be aware of? And again, any recommendations on which mounts to use?

As always, thanks for your insight and wisdom!

I guess I would go for something else unless the stuff is actually deteriorated. I just took my '83 tranny off while swapping engines and the rubber was not "like new" but it still seemed like it was doing its job well. I didn't look at my engine mounts when I swapped because I kept the same face plate on the new engine and never even took the rubber bit of the mount off. I noticed no harsh vibrations that I would associate with bad mounts.

If mine were shitty I would have gone with these,
Engine Mounts/Bracing - Early Rotary & 1979-85 Mazda RX-7
But really if I was going to be replacing rubber bits to make my car drive smoother I would start with the suspension, not the engine.

Hockey pucks drilled out make great engine mount rubber replacements. Stiffer than stock tho.
