If you add a flat plate that large, I would think it will add a significant amount of drag on the car as well as a lot of stress on the mounting points for the rad and IC at high speed. With a tighter V, there is no large flat plane for the air to hit, it is forced through the IC and rad.

Ohh that's definitely a low pressure zone. Nicely done! I wonder if he plans on installing some type of grill of if he's just going to leave it open like that?

I agree that it would be best to nudge up the rad to complete the V so that you are creating pointless drag. Sweet setup other than that!

I'm liking Attilas setup the best at this point, but hats off to all of you guys for fabbing your own V-mount setups!

very clever undersweep. probably not that effective, but it looks good. I'd be worried about that angled bend creating a little bit of lift when climbing hills.

there will be a bottom plate.
2 fans under the radiator just above the plate.

in the front bumper there is a hole that is about 60x 25cm.
the radiator and intercooler have a 60x30 core... so I don't think the plate at the back will give drag.
But to be sure I will add a little plate to make the air flow better.

More pictures soon :-)

Hy Jeroen, Just a suggestion. Wouldn't it be better to lift the rad in the rear some more to fill the gap?

Like this the rad will be near horizontal and the cooling fins will be in a near 90° angle of the wind direction, even with a splitter.

thanx... radiator coul be a bit more up.
Now it is above the middle of the centre hole in the bumper.
the intercooler is more to the back.. So when I make a plate from the rad to intercooler it will be in a 45 degrees angle

hard to explane.. time for pictures.

Does anyone have pics of creative ways to keep the lower end tank spout in use on the radiator? It would be nice to have full use of the rad by having the outlet on the other end instead of being so close to the inlet. I realize it will get used by most of the rad by blocking the tank but is there another way? It is deathly close to the same height as my lip on the front, so there is not much room for mistakes when driving. I am soo close to getting my car ready for the dyno... this is the one major thiing I have left.

The HKS v-mount does what you are asking, as it uses the stock rad design: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/hks-v-mount-t04r-235454/

only problem is they are both intercoolers in the pics. where would you put a rad fan?
i do like the idea

Only problem with that setup compared to mine rynberg is that the rad is mounted opposite of mine... What about setups like mine? Anyone have some pics of the rad hoses and how they are run?

I agree... I like his the best so far.

I been playing the idea of going V mount but after seeing all these pics, I think I'm going to stick to what I have.. fmic and just fab something to pull some air to my radiator...

Here is a prototype we're working on...

it is a 20x12x4 core, with radiused tanks on each side, 3" inlet/outlet pipe.
so far, its fitting well and may end up selling a few.

wuda think?

How is that a vmount? It looks like a completely unducted stock mount with the stock rad position. In other words, unless I am missing something, it looks like a HORRIBLE design.

I should have waited to post photos.. Whats missing it the duct work and the radiator repositioning. so needless to say, i posted a pic too early ;]

the end goal is having the radiator repositioned, ducts in place, etc and putting a bit more of an angle on the intercooler. this is just an idea i have and want to see it on my car.

just the opposite - it creates downforce, thus more stabilty at high speeds

I rather doubt that. It may not be detrimental, but I can't see how releasing air underneath the car would produce downforce... venting it out the hood would.

Sorry, I was just referring to the pan
as far as the rad. flow, I doubt that would create much disturbance
however, it would be interesting to see if the fast flowing air created by the pan would cause a suction and pull air through the rad. (or just around it if there was improper ducting)

My theory to the undertray is that the air exiting the IC (I put the IC on oth bottom of my VMIC) is mostly diffused. That is, it's not a straight blast of air; so the forces exerted downwards would be less than if it were just exiting a duct. Then the air coming from the from (the horizontal forces) will act with the venturi effect and draw the diffused air backwards (hopefully there is a low pressure zone at the opening of the undertray) making it even more efficient cooling-wise.

In hindsight, a set of rear facing louvres may work even better or even extending the front part of the opening back more, so it covers the front half of the IC. That should force the air to exit more rearward instead of downward.

I don't have any CFD nor damper travel sensors to prove my theory but empirically I didn't notice any lightening of the steering wheel at the track. Additionally, I have great temps reduction so it seems to do what I want....so far. I lapped all day (previous to my brake issue day) in 29C weather and running hard...water temp stayed around 98C. Fellow FD owner had over heating issues.

Oh, it's a MazdaSpeed GTC front bumper.

[EDIT] Just noticed that R-Magic is doing something similar....albeit, much nicer looking.

Well, either way you slice it, all of your radiator and IC air WILL exit out of the bottom of the car, unless you've got a vented hood... all Hedge's setup does is allow it to exit a little further forward (otherwise, it's coming out at the back of the undertray).
