Mark the GT3 is a 997.1 RS
The FD is making approx 330 rwhp at 10 psi on a TO4e turbo. Which in my book is the perfect track turbo for the 13b and that power is also about right if you want to keep the car running through thick and thin.
Gordon,
You'd love the GT3 but it's pretty much a track only car. No way to ever appreciate what it's capable of on the street or even at an autocross.
Here's some pics of the track weaponry
The red FD pictured is my baby, it's the longest I've every owned one of these cars, going on 5 lovely years together and she's a very special one. Ruff around the edges but definitely the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Nice
Ok, it's an RS, and you're not quite 350 in the FD, but I think we can resolve the "350 rwhp FD can smoke a GT3" thing, once you get the GT3 suspension dialed, right?

However imagine what 10k invested in the FD would do and that's probably the direction I'll take.

Its rather amusing how ignorant this guy can be. Almost to a point to where it seems like he's doing it purposely but really he's just that close minded.
And its one thing to give opinions but to argue them like their facts, now thats just LOL.
I think this thread needs more pics of your BEAUTY man.
Please post them

A friend of mine has been looking into getting a supra lately and mentioned how the prices have gone down lately. Once I graduate in December that's honestly something I can see myself picking up and slightly modifying for a fun, reliable, 350whp daily. That is if I don't go to grad school.
In a perfect would I would pick up a low mileage verde ithaca gallardo 560 or 570 and ship it off to underground racing for a twin turbo build.

As much as I like and respect the NSX, I think for the money, I'd still be happier having an older and more rare car...280Z w/ 2JZ is still my #1 choice. Hell, maybe in a few years after I am tired of dumping money into the FD, I'll just buy my brother's RB25 280Z or something. lol
$25k+ for a 10+ year old "exotic" sports car....or spend $15k for a fully-built inside and out oldschool Datsun 240/260/280Z... To me, the choice is simple.
I'd drive an NSX in a heart beat, but I'd rather spend that $15k and have $10k left over for savings, or pay down my Sonata car loan. lol

Where can i buy such an animal?
Btw, i still fail to see why people knock the nsx because of its lack of power. There are FAR much more to a car than just straight line speed. Look at the interior build quality of the nsx. Its a mid engine car for gods sake lol. And it has a timeless look, just like the FD. Saying one is more prettier than the other is subjective and opinionated. They both were ahead of its time.
Dont forget the nsx was 90 GRAND brand new. So 25k for a once 90k car is a bargain. Especially since its still a GREAT car, whether you wanna daily drive it or actually be competitive on a track.
So far there are TWO people that went from an FD to an NSX. Jay and viking.
And both had a lot of FD seat time under their belt so their choice to switch was simple.

Add me to the list...but didn't go from FD to NSX....just added the NSX because I wanted the RX-7 to be a track only car.
Here is the difference to me....NSX is a great car to drive. I have had mine 2 years and have driven it 20k miles (including about 4 months of downtime due to a broken transmission). I don't care about mileage as long as it is still fun to drive. It is my daily driver for the most part, but I do drive the '83 RX-7 several times a week. The NSX crowd is a bit older (most owners are nearly twice my age), but they are extremely nice people who just love their cars...at least in this area.
Now the FD is a whole other beast in my book. I had one previous FD (2002-2004) and regret selling it more than anything. So after 3 years without one, I had to have another. In 2007, I picked up my new FD from Fritz and never looked back. The FD is just a dream really. I love driving it, I love working on it, I love just knowing it is in the garage. Mine is in the middle ground between a street car and a race car, but moving towards full race car territory fast (which is where I want it).
Now everyone who has asked me, "Which one do you like more?" my response is always the RX-7. There are days when I contemplate selling the NSX to get a second FD, but then realize that I love the NSX for what it is and don't need two of the same car...but the thought is always there.
Another factor is that NSX is unreasonably expensive to modify and isn't much fun to work on, where the FD is much less expensive to modify (but still not cheap) and is a joy to work on. They are both great cars, but don't think one can really replace the other.
And in response to the original purpose of this thread...to me, there is no car after the FD.

My brother sold and then re-bought his fully-built RB25 280Z that I've already flooded the thread with pics with, for $13k. He sold it for a good deal, because it was my best friend...and he got it back at the same price only because even after all the body work was done, he had already bought a new Camaro, so he didn't really need it..That, and he couldn't handle having no heat/A/C. lol sissy
Reminder pics:
:]
It didn't look near this good when he bought it, mind you..But it was still in pretty good shape. My bro bought it stock and running at $2,500 IIRC...fixed it up, new bushings etc..then the RB25 (figure $2k-ish or so), and he went to town.
No major fabrication work was necessary other than motor/tranny mounts IIRC, then a custom driveshaft. My brother did all the work and wiring himself, so overall he didn't spend much on the initial swap.
So for $15k, I would argue to say that a fully-built Datsun Z is TOTALLY doable, my friend. :]

Anyway, the NSX, like the FD, is a collectible Japanese supercar, whereas, say, the Supra or S2000 will never be more than among the "better" and more desirable sports cars of their day. The NSX is a deeply appealing choice that would be a good investment if conservatively modified or stock-ish.

S2000s are very easy to work on and pretty cheap to modify, however. It's really not that tough to squeeze 350 rwhp out of the F22 with a supercharger - a 350 rwhp S2000 is nothing to sneeze at

The Supra is a more "collectable" car than the FD, especially the 97/98 version. This can be seen in re-sale prices today and I would be willing to bet they will be more valuable going forward too. For under 20k the FD is extremely hard to beat, after that price point I do not think it can compete with cars below 50k. Like mentioned earlier, you can pick up a viper gts in the low 30s and a twin turbo gts for 40k to 45k. This is a rx7 forum, so the bias lies with the FD but IMO it is often put on an undeserving pedestal here. Whenever I have the ability to own a car again I will be making the move towards the gts and selling my FD. Just my .02.

The doctor from Chicago who handed me the keys with 13k miles on the clock 13 years ago - 100% stock right down to the tires and the factory grease on the throttle cable at the time - told me it was the closest thing I'd ever get to two wheels in a car. He was right, but he forgot to tell me to wait until I was 40 and invest my money more wisely until then.
But when I pulled out of the driveway, I was the happiest guy in the world - a car I had wanted since I first saw it reviewed in C&D.

As far as rare and desirable 90's Japanese muscle cars go....I would say that the NSX, Supra, 300ZX TT, and 3000GT VR-4 are in the same "class"...
But does anyone care about that? No.
As far as the "Anyone who sees the car, even if they don't know what it is will turn their head and stare." class.....the RX-7 still stands alone. NSX would be close 2nd though. :P
